Hey everyone! Just found out that I am going to be based in IAH. Pretty excited but not quite sure if I am ready to make the move to IAH from gorgeous North Carolina. Anyway was wondering if any folks who do this commute could let me know how its treating you. (i.e. loads full?, US Airways or Continental best treatment?) Look forward to seeing you all out there. Thanks for the help.

:D Hillbilly Philly* to IAH sounds like a Mesa CRJ900 run.

*just a joke.

That route is usually Mesa 900's. The only problem I can see is competing with other Mesa pilots who used to be based in IAH and still live there. I think there are a few Expressjet flights as well. The flight is usually around 2-2.5 hours.

I was in CLT yesterday with a pilot and flight attendant -both trying to get home to IAH, they had both been bumped off a flight and the remaining were over sold-( this on a Sat.). I think it will be a very hard commute, as stated above there are alot of mesa pilots who commute from IAH to CLT.Best of luck to you.

I flew CLT to IAH a few days ago. 3 hrs and 12 minutes. Strong headwinds, weight restricrted to 49 (not an XR). If we needed an ALT the people count would have gone down. Was ready to put a bullet in my head after 2 1/2 hours.

I am with Mesa based in CLT. I fly the CRJ 900 on this route about once a week. It is almost always full. Paying passengers are usually around 80 and non revs. from Mesa usually take up the extra seats. Always full. Will probally be a tough commute. Sorry.

The loads are almost always high, but there are a lot of options. It really depends on the day of the week. The month that I did it, I traveled to IAH on a Wednesday, which wasnt that bad. However, coming back to CLT on Sunday was AWFUL. Sometimes the loads were so bad I just went to see friends in another city for a few days. This was all on reserve though.

The one good note about IAH is that the lines are fairly commutable once you become a lineholder, even the relief lines are pretty good. Even though EWR is a shorter flight, the lines are not very commutable. I'm a lot living happier living in base, mainly because of the flexibility of trading and picking up trips to maximize pay and time off, etc. Commuting from CLT is doable, but there is a lot to be said for living in base if you can.
