Rxflyer, not trying to be mean but you just figured that out? The FAA has given pilots the option to use a different number than you're SSN since I started flying back in 2000. Just an FYI.

Texan, I take no offense. I knew the new tickets were out there, but I just apparently had not noticed the ID number option. Seems that there are a lot of folks like me out there who haven't bothered to look into it, so AOPA puts that into their seminars.
 
I just found out that you can get your SSN removed from your pilot's license, and they issue you an ID number instead. Apparently you can do this on the FAA website. Thought it was a good idea. Gleaned this little nugget from an AOPA Safety Seminar.

That has been known for years, a little behind on current information. Suggest reading more! :)
