Personally I'd rather go to Mexico and day than do trips like this seeing as the Canada trips still took all damm night and you only got 2-3 hours flight time. As far as day/night, its about 50/50. Unless of course all the flight followers are conspiring against you and you're stuck on the night shift for two months straight! :)


Interesting. I really had no idea about this side of the aviation business, since I flew for the commuters (pre-regional days) before going to DL. Thanks for the enlightenment. Sounds like the trips have some variety and can be interesting. I bet the Mexican food is good down there on the border.

We don't like our crews to eat on trips into Mexico, we have had cases of the trotts, and normally they are only there for a couple hours.
 
Yeah but border food is awesome! I miss Taco Palenque!

Oh and I have braved the food in Mexico a few times. I don't eat meat so my chances of getting some scary food are a bit smaller. Never any problems here....
 
Oh I disagree! Theres alot to look forward to in LRD. My absolute favorite layover.
 
Ahhh... The memories of Taco Palenque'..sp? Absolutely the best mexican food I've ever had ! The FBO filled up our jet and brought take out right to our cargo door! I highly recommend the Fajita Taco's....

USA was great to me ! Safe airplanes, good training, OK schedule (on demand), Great bunch of folks... I learned alot and had fun doing it. Way better than any commuter job. The Falcons were great !
 
Never made it to Boys Town... I ate the goat tacos across the border... not too bad.. Never got the Trotts.... I know a fella who got runny after indulging in Monterey.... I think he called it GERP.... ??

Still waiting on my sim time. I got 5 weeks beween end of ground school and start of sim. I was the most junior guy in class... sux.

Believe me I have no jealousy of you what so ever. However, with your management spending thousands in legal fees trying to derail Ameristars expansion by spreading rumor, innuendo, and hearsay; I must admit I have taken to grouping you guys to a lower life form. As for the contracts give me a break, you have an 18 month 18K obligation. Yes I know it’s prorated, after 8 months you are down to an Ameristar contract.

I talked to one of your guys in Laredo some time ago. He said that your guys if stuck on the road when days off rolled around they either had to work “and get paid extra” or wait until the company worked them to YIP, to take there days off whenever they got there. “That is some quality of life” Ameristar policy has always been that when your days on end they buy you an airline ticket period. Additionally, I am aware of only five people ever furloughed from Ameristar Jet Charter something usa jet can’t say. Hey Randy good thing I did not take your 10k to work for you “guess I burned that bridge”. You probably would have laid me off or I would have had to quit, no way am I moving east of the Mississippi! Bye the way whats up with Ameristar sending you four good guys “all yip boys” and you send capanicus, landed with his feat on the breaks blew out four tires and closed the airport.



As for RVSM I personally have no idea, nobody seems to worried about it. I guess Tom figures he can fly around at 280 and still make higher margins than you guys, who knows. Do you all still have 9’s parked or have yall! saved enough money to do the C’s



All I have left to say is that working for either company is the same job flying the same equipment the same freight for the same customers to the same places for the same money and the same days off. Best thing about Ameristar YIP is not the only choice of base and if you fly the 737’s or 9’s you are home based.

Hey I don't know anything about them, but you can not make law suit if there is nothing to have a lawsuit about. It is kinda like smoke and fire. The LRD days off thing must be old info, true the Crew Scheduler will ask do you want money or days off, just to give you the option in some cases. Normally she will not allow the pilot to take the money becasue a $300 airline ticket is cheaper than the $500-$600 a day to buy the day off. The K guy, some guys do not work out and he elected to leave the company as opposed to taking additional training, we only send on the ones we don't want. However we have not had a pilot go there since he did in 1999. As far as parked 9-s go, we are flying 11, the passenger business is booming. How is your 121 passenger business doing? I heard the pax certificate is taking a little more time than planned. CSET can be a real pain can't they, picky guys that want real training programs, real manuals, real maintenance. We do have 2 9-s parked, they may come back on line in the spring depending upon business. I do not see much happening on your side of YIP. You like your place, our guys like our place, that is life. Hey, you still hiring Capts off the street?, a sign of a company that can not grow their own. We hired a Capt off the street in 1998, of course from your place. Have fun AGpilot II

Do you know if USA Jet/Active Aero is hiring for any non-pilot/mechanic positions? I fly out of willowrun. My wife (the one who makes the decent money so I can fly) is looking to make a change. She is very detail oriented with a background in sales and finance (though not an accountant), and would probably be awesome as a flight follower or charter sales. Would it be possible to get the contact info for the person or people that do that sort of hiring? If you need more details etc feel free to pm me. Thanks a lot in advance. Kingaira90
 
Hi!

It used to be at USAJet that you could miss your days off, but since our management got smart, that has ended.

My last 4 trips on the road I was airlined either home or where I asked to go instead of DTW, and I got home (or where I wanted to go) early. My last set of days on the schedule, I was released early and spent an extra night at home-it really helps.

There hasn't been a training contract at USAJ for 1.5? years.

USAJ hires no captains off the street, although the upgrade period could be short depending on the situation. I think the shortest time guys lately made captain after a year.

Taco Palenque did rule. But you can also eat in Mexico, you just have to follow the rules:

Don't drink the water.

Don't eat anything like lettuce, fruit etc. because they wash it with the water.

Don't get ice in your drink. Because it is made from the water.

Eat anything cooked.

and lastly....

Don't drink the water.

If you follow that, there is No Problemo!
 
Hi!

I often hear about how food in other countries is suspect. It IS a good idea to not drink any water (unless it's bottled) in Mexico, but, beyond that, just because you're in the US doesn't meen your food is safe.

I've never gotten food poisoning in Mexico, and I've bought some local food from some little hole-in-the-wall places.

I was just in MCO, and I got food poisoning, probably at my well-known, higher end, US chain hotel. If it wasn't there, it was at a higher-end national chain restaurant. I wasted a day of vacation being sick, and that's never happened to me in Mexico.

I just ate the local food in Costa Rica for a week and not only am I alive, it was delicious!~ muoy bueno!!
