This thread reminds me of my first jet job, I was paid $100.00 (cash) a day to sit right seat in a Hawker 600. No benefits or retirement no perks just a green back from the CP at the end of the trip.

I was twenty-one, tired of instructing and had a whopping 1300 total, so I was in hog heaven. They got a full crew and I was logging jet time. I did this till I was twenty-three took my ATP on my birthday. I walked away with 2300 hrs total, over 1000 multi and 500 jet.

Did I care if the pay was miserable? No…
Would I do that again? Yes…
Do I care what others might think of my actions? No…

At the time it was all I had and it beat the flying hell out of instructing and I am more than positive it had something to do with me landing a nice job shortly thereafter.

if you worked 13 days per month, you would have made more than 15K per year

that would be 20 days per month for the captain at $100 per day.

If companies can operate a jet aircraft of any kind, they are pitiful for paying that little money even to the low time guys.

Yea, I've seen captains like that before. He was probably getting paid $250 a day for your help but was paying you $100. The fact of the matter is that we all ought to be outraged that we are sometimes forced to prostitute ourselves. I had a friend the other day tell me that he was instructed to hire a right seat guy and it was up to him how much to pay. He was instructed by the owner to "just be fair" He said he was going to try and get someone for $25k or so. I told him he ought to be ashamed of himself! There he is sitting pretty making $100k and he's gonna pay some kid $25k.

It's the sysytem that is the problem. What other profession do you know of that after obtaining all of the required certificates, completing a 4 yr degeee your still not qualified to do anything?

15k???? a year????
Why not stay unemployed and let WIA pay for a type? Then go talk to operators (with a fresh type in your back pocket) about real money.
