Anyone know of any jobs available in Central Alabama? I'm purusing Captain/Co-Captain position in Citation 500 or 525 Series.

Thanks!

In central Alabama I think the only two 500 series are owned by Auburn UNiversity and the Gov (I'm not including BHM). If you can go to Mobile, I think there is a Charter Company with a few 500 series and I think they have a 525 also. I have heard mixed reviews about them but it may be worth a try. They are based at MOB not BFM. Good luck.

If BHM isn't out of the question, try Warren Manufacturing. They have a CJ1 and a CJ2, along with a King Air 200. Here's the info:

James Gray, CP
4601 East Lake Blvd.
BHM, 35217

We also have a couple of 500's in our hangar. I'm not sure of the companies, but I'll ask the CP's the next time I talk to them.

What do you guess the mins are for Warren? I know someone that Jim uses on the cj part time, but not sure if they are looking for full time.

how much time do you have, i think your profile has 1700 or so...

if that's accurate, it'll be pretty tough to find a capt. job...

blzr,

Sorry, I have no idea. We're in the same hangar as them, but I don't actually know Jim, or what kind of flight time he looks for.

If you find an extra job somewhere in this state, send it my way please.:)

Auburn recently studiously ignored my on-line app and snail mail follow-up, sent in response to a posting on their own website. The posting is gone, so I have to assume that they won't be calling me any time soon.

They must be pretty demanding, because I meet or exceed every requirement listed on the job posting.

Don't feel so bad, they ignored mine too, and I'm AU alumni. Not that it should really make a difference though. I spoke to one of the pilots down there via telephone while the job posting was up and he said that he wasn't sure what kind, or how many people would apply. From the sound of it, they had some good folks applying for that job.

I Don't buy that. You can barely get a Seminole in there, much less a Gulfstream.

I dunno man, I'd have to be a pretty sloppy pilot to sweat getting a Seminole into a 5000' strip. Dunno what the Gulfstream requires though...

Jeez.......We used to run 737's into 6500 foot strips, and that was under all the 121 rules. You could land a Seminole 3 times on a 5000 footer!

I do know Gulfstreams will do 5000 feet. Don't know if they are at gross weight when they do it though.

Seen Lears at Jasper before, so its not too unlikely.

I don't know of a single corporate jet that can't get out of a 5000 ft strip. Thier range out of that strip is another question. We do it all the time in a Citation III which has a reputation as a runway hog.

Northern Alabama Lear Job

Experienced pilot with Lear Jet time, preferably in Lear 55; experience in managing all aspects of flight department, including budgeting, supervision of pilots and maintenance. Northern Alabama.

Got this from the www.planejobs.com mail list. I'm not a member so don't have the contact info. Sorry.

Thanks to everyone for all the info! I live just east of Birmingham and still looking for another full time job! Maybe Spring will bring some new jobs to town!!

Yea....5000 feet of runway is plenty for takeoff usually, but yes...range may be a factor!!

Citation Job in AL

There are 2 Citations in Jasper, thats it. There is a new CJ2 in Hamilton, but they are flying it SP, occasional co-pilot. As for Warren's Flight Dept. they recently brought in another pilot and I hear that is all they are going to have on salary. They do use contract pilots a good bit. King Air mins for them (PIC) are in the 3000 TT range, 500 multi, w/ turboprop time if you have flown w/ them so they know you. Don't know what the mins for the CJ's they have are, but they are significantly higher.

KS,

My personal favorite was when we used to land the B737-300 or 200 at SNA (John Wayne/ OC)... 5,700' looks like a postage stamp on approach :)

C650 a runway hog? A local operator occasionally has one or both of his into and out of their family-owned 3800 x 40, for maintenance I assume. I'll bet that's a butt tightener on final. :D

Don't even consider that Citation operator out of MOB, CSI, unless you want to have the dubious distinction of being THE lowest paid Citation pilot in the US.

That's not a flight department, that's a shelter for battered pilots.

We used to fly a C560XL that had no problem getting in and out of a 3600' strip at a field elevation of 3300'.

Civilian's version of a carrier landing...lot's of fun! (too bad it was the only fun thing about that job)

We interviewed a guy who was chief pilot on a 500 based somewhere up by Gadsden who was making a whopping 26K. Is it worse than that?

Hell, that's like getting a million in New York. Just think of all the broken washers and dryers you can buy with that dough to put on the front lawn.:D
