Christmas Eve '03, different from '02?

First of all, I'd like to extend a wish for a happy holiday season for all of my fellow pilots tonight. No matter where you are, on a trip in a crummy hotel room, sitting reserve alone in some crash pad, serving the military in the desert, furloughed and working the night shift at some filler job, or at home with loved ones, here's a hope that next Christmas Eve you'll be where you want to be with who you want to be with.

I'm curious to know (as I sit here alone in an office, bored at my non-flying reserve job) what you were doing at this time last year and what you're doing tonight.

Just thought a little conversation might make the night go a little faster. Even though I'm not very religous, I think I might go see if there is a Christmas service at the base chapel tonight. Regardless of your beliefs, I encourage everyone to get out tonight, if you can, and enjoy yourself.

Last year, flew into MSP and had a pretty **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** good time...

This year, hanging out at the company crash pad in FAR...

Last year I was in training so I was home with the family.
This year I'm in a hotel in California sucking down a brewski and watching "A Christmas Story" over and over on TNT as I troll the boards.

For a little thread creep... My airline has been extremely full the last few days and I hear we are tomorrow too. What do other people think? It seems like even with this "Orange Alert" (does Anita Bryant make that call?) crap people are travelling in droves. With any luck by this time next year management won't have the cojones to keep a straight face and tell us, "We just can't raise the fares, we have to cut your pay."

Last year- watched kids open presents on Xmas Day, then commuted in for an evening show-time.

This year- commute in after dinner for 12/26 show.

Next year? Probably "crash-pad Xmas" as a junior Capt.

This year, had the day off, stupid me answered the phone and got junior manned. Lucky for me I found a junior reserve not assigned and now I'm home with the family. Moral of the story, dont answer the phone!

Last year I was working a desk job after not having flown for over a year, so I was with the family.

This year I flew two packed legs into ONT, then enjoyed a late dinner and some adult beverages for free courtesy of some very generous captains. I've got two easy legs home on Christmas day and actually get in at a reasonable hour.

Even though I'm spending the holidays away from home I'm pretty excited to have the opportunity to do so. Life has improved drastically for me over the last year, and for that I am truly grateful. Let's hope the next year is kind to all the furloughees/poolees/wannabes and all of you have the "privilege" of working next Christmas.

Last Year flew from FLL-SWF-FLL home by midnight.
This Year at home with family. I can't complain I am home everyday I am base in FLL and I live in MIA.

Just about the only good thing about being downgraded (other than simply having a job and not being shot at) is the improved seniority. Home last year and this one . . . hopefully a bottom-feeding reserve Captain next year, so probably in a hotel. My heart goes out to all of you who weren't able to be home, especially those with rugrats . . . and, most especially, to those in harm's way. Merry Christmas!
