I was just on the pilotjobs.com website and clicked on the Chautaqua link and it indicated that a CFI rating is a minimum requirement, can this be true? The competetive minimums listed also seem quite low. If the competitive mins. are accurate it would seem I might have a chance there with 500 multi and 300 turbine...seems doubtful though.

I can back up relief tube on this...

I interviewed with CHQ, got a letter saying "you've been selected for the hiring pool"...and this happened spring of 2002, 19 mo. ago...

Stupid question, but one that needs asking...

Have you been updating your resume every 4-6 months (since I assume you've still been flying)? Have you called to follow up? I know a guy who was in the "hiring pool" at CHQ but didn't get a class date until a guy in the training dept. walked his freshly updated resume in to HR. I also know people who have been in the pool since May 02 and either haven't been flying or haven't updated their resume. They are still waiting on a phone call....

these people who have been in the pool for months and months, are they purdue graduates???

I know of a few Purdue grads who have been swimming since May 02, but they haven't been regularly flying or haven't updated their resumes (doh!). A bunch of grads were hired last October and November, but they all flew the Beechjet. I also know people (3) who were hired into the pool this past May and started class a few weeks ago. One guy was around 1200/150, one guy had a BE40 type rating, and the highest time guy had over 2000 with Turbo Commander time.

I can't speak for any of the other people who have posted here on this board. I just hope CHQ has room for me when I graduate in 18 months....

Good luck everyone with your interviews!

I just dont understand why CHQ would waste the time, money, and effort to interview pilots, and then put some of them into classes, while the others sit in a virtual perma-pool (example being "relief tube, BoilerUP" and their friends). And then on top of that, they hire more and more pilots while the existing pool is still waiting without being drained.

thats what i got from all of the previous posts. if it is true, then its really unfortunate that CHQ is wasting peoples time to sit in a pool forever while others get hired ahead for no reason.

Yep, I've been flying full-time as a CFI, updating my resume every 2-3 months or about every 100 hours...since May 2002...still swimming!

To my knowledge the only "perma-pool" swimmers are purdubies who interviewed as interns. I don't think anyone else is hired into the pool with and indeterminate class date; in other words, the small pool that is formed right now should be drained with the first class in January.

That'd be great if you were right. Probably not:), but we'll just have to see.

Others are hired just days after their interview while we continue to wait because they have more experience, plain and simple. 19 months of not getting a class is not too fun, but at least it's fair that 30 somethings with families and a 1000 more hours than me get it first. Good for them. They deserve good stuff.

It's not a matter of not updating stuff, I've been doing it every 3 weeks/100 hours, flying over 30 hours a week. An Internship or having people walk your stuff in aren't helping too much, at least with me, its all about the hours, Or so it seems. It's about multi time too though, and I don't have any lucky connections. Gotta find some 50 year old rich lady and pimp it as a sugar daddy for time in her twin maybee:) Oh well, just gotta keep patient keep positive, it'll happen, if not with CHQ, with someone else. But don't even expect to have anything 6 months outta college now. Unless your family's loaded and you grew up logging Baron time when you were 7, those days are LONG gone, probably for the better.

Has anyone heard of a class date for January? I was at the 11-19-03 interview and got the pool letter. And, does anyone know if the December 2nd class of this month was the last class of this year? Hopefully they will call soon! Best of luck to eveyone in the pool now. Should I update my resume to Rosa before the end of the year? Thanks in advance for the advice!

random question- for those having already intervied, whats the
sim eval. like? I heard its a PCAD.

And for those in training, does the sim scripts mostly still work out of memphis?

thanks fellas

When I interviewed for my intern position, I saw the sim. Its an Elite PCATD, and everybody tells me it is *very* unstable, especially in pitch. I was told by training staff they are mainly looking for basic attitude instrument skills and procedures. My interviewer told me only "low-time" interviewees do the sim. I think they consider low time under 1500, but don't hold me to that.

I think you can find a good gouge on www.aviationinterviews.com

Good luck!

All the training sim flights were out of MEM...at least they were over the summer at STL.

thanks guys. Anyone know anything else about the sim eval?
But guess with a lot of luck, might not have to take it.

First off you have to be some what qualified to get the job. There are very few golden spoons left to give out. The aplicants on average are very qualified.

- The Pool is only for purdue grads that would be hired if they had more time. This is because they have a flow through agreement. We have other feeder sources and some of them may be added to the pool all though I am not aware of any.

- The sim is only a tool. I dont like it but it is there. Use proper procedures and just dont crash it!

Be professional, update your resume' and keep flying, remember recency of experience counts.

Good Luck to all, it is worth the hard work.
