Recently learned from a CHQ training manager, CHQ has no "train to proficency" (like XJT) no in house training or budget to provide additional training to pilots who fail check rides, or require additional sim sessions. 2 strikes, you're OUT. Aviation career tainted indefinetly.. Rather un-supporting to the claims they value their employees. Stories or gouge anyone?

They will give you extra sim sessions if you need it. No more than 2 extra ones, but you will get them. Unless you are just way off base.

agreed, they are more than willing to work with you, and they want you to get through as much as you do.

nothing to worry about, unless your smokin it out back the sim.

Outside of the majors, this is par for the course.

I don't know of anyone who has been terminated due to lack of support by the company. The ones I hear about are from FO's who had classmates wash out in initial training. In each instance they were given extra sim sessions, and/or extra IOE. Frankly, if you can't pass an initial SIC check after the alloted sims plus extras, or if you can't fly the airplane after 50 hours of IOE, then maybe the airline world isn't for you.

You've got 3 type ratings, what are you worried about? How many chances should one get? I can see a little extra help but you've gotta put a cap on how much extra help one can recieve.

What does that mean?

Darwin. If you can't get through the training, there are others that can. It isn't rocket surgery. It's paint by numbers profiles. If you can't meet the (pathetically low) minimum requirements, you are not trusted with other people's lives. What's wrong with that? And if you become indefinitely tainted by your inability to pass the training, perhaps that is not such a bad thing for those lives with which you seek to be to be entrusted elsewhere.

This may come as a surprise to some, but you are not entitled to this job. You actually have to be able to do it.

Most regionals are like this. That is yet another reason regionals suck.

You folks that are so worried about this need to be pushing for AQP at your airline...but even AQP has its limitations on "train to proficiency".

CHQ/S5/RAH gives FOs two train-to-proficiencies on each checkride. Captains get none. If you fail a checkride, you are given some additional training and another checkride. If you fail the second checkride (with the above listed train-to-proficiencies available to you again), then you are out the door. Maybe this is more harsh than some other carriers, but it seems reasonable to me. There aren't many do-overs out on the line.

In my experience the only ones who they don't get thru as a new hire are the know it all, loud-mouthed, jack a$$es in the back of the room.

As far as captain upgrades/transitions go, the ones who don't get through are the ones that show up day one not knowing their head from their A$$, and the know it all, loud-mouthed jack A$$es in the back of the room.

If you show up humble and ready to work and study, it is a breeze!

I think you're jealous because those know it all jackasses in the back of the room actually get laid on a regular basis :smash:

In my experience it is the older folks who have the most trouble. Some guys just have a helluva time with all of the button pushing and computer aspects, example: quick FMS programming.

Two that washed out in my class were late thirties.

Can we say "taint" on this website?

1) The reason for the F/O's to get train to proficiency on the initial ride is it is a PC, and two re-trains are allowed. From that point on, any recurrent PC, be it CA or F/O gets two re-trains.
2) The initial CA ride can not have a re-train during the ride is because it is a "TYPE", thus FAA check. That explains the (hopefully)white slip, and not pink when finished.

3) If you're a newbie F/O, you get a re-take on everything. Bust the oral, retrain and pass, back to zero. Now you can UNSAT your PC horrendously and re-train and pass, and you're in.

4) If you can not pass your CA ride, you can get re-checked as an F/O for 6 months and try upgrade again.

It's a pretty forgiving system. If you come in and are a loud-mouthed jackass in the back of the room that knows everything, you may have problems.

...and no, we don't care how it was done at XXX airlines.

No company wants to spend the thousands of dollars to train you, only to show you the door. Show up, work hard, have a good attitude...and you should do fine.

Article 10 k.1.b- "A pilot who does not successfully complete his second
consecutive attempt at a qualification check during his first
attempt at upgrade, transition or initial training as provided in
this subsection, will be returned to his former category and
position, provided he can successfully complete the
qualification check for that equipment. If, after a second
attempt, he does not successfully complete the qualification
check for his former category and position, he may be
discharged."
