Does anyone know of anyone at CHQ assigned the 170 that ISN'T 23 or older?

Be patient junior, you'll get a job when it's time.

What's the big deal? Insurance? There were two of us in my newhire class Avro/146 class at Mesaba that were 22 and about 1200TT. Is there anything radically different between putting a non ATP qualified newhire in a 135/145 verses the 190 other than what would look better on a press release if God forbid something bad happened?AD

Nope. I'm upgrading on the 145 right now, and I asked our POI about that (just was curious). I don't believe they're actually typing new-hire FO's but having the ATP mins helps with the green-on-green waiver problem (since we're the second airline in the hemisphere to operate these things, there's a small problem finding captains with 75 hours time in type).

It is my undestanding that this has to do with some regulations concerning training not the actual line flying. Something to do with the simulator certification. I'm not real sure on the whole situation so I won't go any further but that is what I've been told. Sucks for us new hires that are under 23. Can we file an age discrimination law suit??

i'm confused

Why would new-hires want to fly the 170 over the 145 family? Pay is the same, and there is only one *current* domicile (IND). Plus you only get United flight benefits. Are people still in awe of the E-170, or is it the "bigger-is-better" envy some people have regarding airplanes?

I honestly don't get it.

I think that is part of it. A lot of pilots have the bigger is better view point. Most of us DO like to fly bigger equipment.

But I also think it is because if your on the 170, you will be fairly high on the FO list as deliveries have just started.

I don't really see what the big deal is... both jets, each has its pluses and minuses. Having more bases and better travel benefits is never a bad thing!

I would vote that people think bigger is better. I am on the 1900 now.....all i can think is bigger is better. Trust me, the passengers think the exact same thing. I hear it every single time i board up.

Not to hijack the tread. So the travel benies. at CHQ are with AA, UA, US and DL if you are on the 145, 140 or 135? Is that for your family too? Can someone tell me how many passes you get and is it with each airline?

Thanks Props

Maybe I'm confused.....

Maybe I missed the point (blond moment in a non-blond head), but I don't really understand your point. How could one be "fairly high on the FO list" as the company acquires more aircraft? As vacancy bids are awarded, the more senior FOs could push those FOs down the list. This has happened at numerous airlines with newer aircraft. As the company acquires more, they need more positions filled, and more senior people bid and are awarded the position, thereby pushing the junior people who thought they were "set" downwards into the never ending world of reserve.

LTG

If I understand our contract correctly, FO's are seatlocked 'til upgrade, therefore no 145 FO's can bid the 170 right seat. Therefore, all 170 FO's are new hires. That is how there seniority will build as they hire more.
