I am curious about the Chief Pilot positions at the airlines. Firstly, how is a chief pilot selected. Is it a management decision or is it on seniority?
Also what are the powers of the chief pilot. At most airlines the pilot on the board of directors is not the chief pilot. Thus I am assuming that he has little say in critical decisions.
There is also a rumor/notion amonst us aspiring aviators that the chief pilot pretty much sets the hiring flight time minimums. I would believe it is more complex than this and involves insurance minimums, FARs etc. So whats the take on that.
Thanks for your replies. They are appreciated as always.
