Wondering if you guys can help me out with some info. I'd do a bunch of searches on here, but I'm a little scatter-brained at the moment because I just found out from my company that my route's closing and I have to either move to Chicago to keep my job, or look elsewhere. Fun Fun Fun.

At this point I'm pretty sure I'll make the move to Chicago. I've been thinking about trying for a regional job in the past, but commuting would have been the only option considering where I live now, but once in Chicago I'd hope that would change.

Are there any operators that have domiciles, bases, or whatever in the Chicago area? And, with the different companies, how likely is it for a new hire to get Chicago?

I'd appreciate any help you all could give me. Thanks. ;)

Eagle has a base in Chicago, but one of their recruiters told me it's normally about a year before you can successfully bid it.

CHQ is hiring for the E170 ORD Base. You should be able to hold ORD with-in 3 months of hitting the line.

Thanks guys for the help. This is a sucky time for me right now, so I really appreciate it. I'm just thankful that I DO have a job for now, I know a lot of other people haven't been as fortunate. :)

DPA, which brings me to another question... Anyone know of some "affordable" (laughs) places to live in that area? I was told to look around St. Charles and some other town...shoot, name escapes me right now...Carol Stream maybe? If you know of some areas to begin my online search that'd be great. It's just my wife and I....and out little rat dog....so we won't need anything huge. I'm just worried about trying to survive there. Good thing the Missus LIVES on Ramen already! Heh!

Thanks 22.

What are you looking for? Rent or buy?

You dont want to live in lincoln park... 1) it'll be to expensive 2) it'll take you 2 hrs in traffic to get to Dupage

I'll PM you some places to look

Lincoln park, gold coast

22's jerking your chain. He just gave you the high rent district. You should be able to do OK out in St. Charles. It's pretty far west and no convenient access to interstates. A drive into the city during rush hour would be a nightmare. I have a couple of friends that bought out there to escape the high real estate prices closer to the city and they love it.

Are you crazy, St. Charles costs as much as the gold coast. You need to make a lot of money to live in St. Charles. Look in West Chicago, Carol Stream, if you own a gun Aurora.

So far I've found a couple in Westmont and Lisle. Good area? I have been looking in Carol Stream and St. Charles too. I own a couple guns, so I might look in Aurora too, lol, thanks XJslave. ;)

If you have a van, you could live down by the river just west of DPA.

I'll bring the Gov't Cheese! LOL!

Try Elburn or Maple Park. It's only about 15 min. west of there. A little less congested. But only a little. I grew up in the area, and don't miss it a bit. It's an overgrown yuppie refugee camp. Suburbanitis, whatever you want to call it, it's just crazy around the Randall Road corridor.

I live right next to Lisle in Naperville. You can find some pretty cheap places in Lisle, Westmont. My bro lived in a 2 bedroom in westmont and paid 800 a month. Not to bad of a drive to DPA. Just jump on the 355 tollway north to north ave. Both towns are ok You may want to look into the four lakes ski resort in lisle. They have a ton of places to rent/buy. www.fourlakesoflisle.com

Hey, try Aurora, Sycamore, Glendale Heights or Batavia. FAIRLY cheap places to live around there. I used to live in the Glenlake Apartments on North Ave and President. I had a 700sq ft apartment for $600 a month. Its about a 10 minute drive in traffic.

Lisle and in that area will be about 30-45 minute drives for you and they are just as expensive.

I spoke with a lady with Lakeside (?) apartments today. I think that was the place. I've looked at so many that I am not even sure where it was, but I think it was Lisle (how do you pronounce that by the way?). Anyone know of them? I'm gonna do another search for Batavia and Glendale Heights now too, because she told me a drive would be 20-30mins, but then again she didn't know where the airport was! I think I'd trust you guys who've BEEN there! ;) Thanks!

Rick how are things going over at chicago express?

Good, we're bringing in one 727 per month now. We have 3 total, and they are slowly phasing out the DC-3's and Saabs. Rumor is that we're going to be getting new luggage carts and GPU's.

Based in KS right now...Chicago's looking expensive so far...the search continues!! :) The help's been great. ;)

Hey CaravanMan, where in KS were you based for PMS? I used to fly the GBD-ICT route for a few months, Nov.2001-March 2002.

Hope things are going well over there at Planemasters!
