Cherry20/propilot, you 2 have been drinking the D.O.s cherry koolaid. I said if you are young build your time, I didn't say working their makes you any less of anything. A lot of people including me have left on good terms and dont have anything good to say about the company. Cherry20 ask the dispatchers how much they make. What are you making 21k yearly plus 2 or 3 cents a mile. You said its standard 135 there lies the problem, pilots are treated like whores. K.D. and his dad make aviation suck, they set the standard. AW Jeez cherry20 I love the place too.

Lets assess pay now that it has been "restored" (by the way Uncle Ray's memo almost brought a tear to my eye.) Basically USAJ DA20 pilots falls back in line to be the second worst paid behind Ameristar for an average month, and well behind pay at top dog Cherry Air. For the DC9, it is the worst pay of any 9 operators out there period. Go 7 miles down the street and the USAJ Capts are on the FO pay scale. Or you can sell all your days down the toilet and make a respectable wage, but you can’t have both. The average 4th yr Airtran FO has 14days off a month and banks 70K (but there are very few 4th yr Airtran FO’s b/c their Capts on average making 107K with a min guarantee of 94K.) The DC-9 is a mainline narrow body a/c not an RJ.

Yet USAJ management is not done tinkering. Just how can guarantee be lowered? They want a pay scale like Cherry but don't have a business plan like Cherry (not volume.) Ah yes the answer! Pay per day! Folks this should read like a viagra commercial where all the benefits are read slowly and with excitement, yet it ends with a speed talking shallow voice and all you can hear is “may result in blindness.”

Me thinks *disclaimer, this "me thinks" excerpt does not represent the collective pilot group or management of USAJ as a whole* that pay per day will bring the out of touch upper managements crystal ball (aka projection) more closely into the pilots lives. Bids come out for a busy month, every line is made up of lines with only 8 days off! PAY DAY! Then for the slow month it comes out with 14 days off! Uh oh, can't pay my alimony and my mortgage, sorry kids! I think this will take stability out of the QOL, and then lean the ranks (which a pay cut was just taken to keep everyone and let the nature of attrition take its course.)

Like a previous poster said, its like a pay scale tied to the stock market... Bad idea! Its time to get a Union on the property so you can have a voice in representing yourself as the other people discuss your pay and work rules. It is time to have a voice at USAJ! Or stick with the current way of life: A memo comes out or a meeting is called to announce the new management idea that directly affect the pilots. Then there are sour grapes, a few go to the CP's office, others to Randy, and then there is a pilot meeting where there is more complaining. Talk is cheap, and that is all the USAJ pilots have. Get representation NOW!

Evidently the pay isnt bad at cherry now

I knew a guy who worked there for a short time. I believe he had 3 declared emergencies in 3 months.

Didn't cherry have a double flame out a couple years back with a dead stick landing.

I've also heard of pilots being fired for refusing to fly broken airplanes.

This was all a few years ago so hopefully things have changed.

Cherry has never had a double flame out! No one has ever been fired for not flying a broken plane, and no one has declared 3 emergencies in their time there much less in three months!

The dual flame-out was Grande Aire coming out of SDF. Both floats on the feeder tanks were frozen. They did a 180 out of 12000 feet and landed on the opposite runway from which they had taken off. They greased the landing with a full load of UPS freight and full fuel. I'm sure one or two on this board know who the pilot was.

The low Down!

Listen, I worked at Cherry 4 1/2 years and left last year on my own account for some different experience for my resume. There are those that have left all disgruntle and those that no longer work there with great stories and recommendations for the place.

I am the later, with a clean record to show from Cherry Air. Now, in order to do this one must keep a positive attitude the majority of the time and above all...AS IN ANY aviation job CYA (cover your arse). People tend to forget this point. I don't care if you are a 747 capt. for Northwest, if you are not a competent captain and watch out for EVERYTHING, even your career there will be in jeopardy.

So, I side with the positive posters on this thread. And for the negatives, just remember "A pilot will Beotch at any job...that's a pilot"

Work at Cherry, build time, have fun, be safe and ALLWAYS CYA!

Squirrel as usuall your right. cherry20, goodluck man. I did have some fun at cherry, I really cant stand the owner and his son.

Wow, the great squirreldog has reappeared in all his glory. The barrel of koolaid is getting bigger and bigger. As for cherry20's, to suggest that Cherry is a safe operation is stretching it a bit.

Yea, had to chime in after all the trash talk going around and clear the air. Joe, I see you always seem to pop up for your two cents to the stir a pot!
