For Capt

You know I went to college and got couple degrees and still ended up in my present job, as posted to you in a PM I consider myself extremely lucky to be where I am, and love my job. We get 100's of resumes from pilots who would also lke to be here, that includes ex fortune 100 corp pilots, unemployed DAL, UAL, AA, and NWA pilots. They must all crazy.

So why the uncalled for jab at me? Because I support higher education? Give me a break...

Remember the old saying... "Those whom live in glass houses... Shouldn't throw stones"... I wasn't even involved in this thread, until your smart-a$$ed comment came up. Those who know me, knew I wouldn't let that opportunity slide by. My position still stands.

Pilot Yip,

With your entire 300+ hrs. in the falcon, you have obviously never been in this situation. You teach how to get out of a situation that you have never encountered.......(man do I wish I had TR's). Just yesterday, I used 6500 ft. of a 7500 ft. rwy. and that's not the first time the seat cushion was sucked half way up my a$$ as the snowy runway disappeared before my eyes. Thank God noone was hurt in the Cherry Air situation. If you had spent enough time flying this airplane in these conditions, you would have known not to post this thread. This very thing has happened at your airline, and will happen again. With my 3K+ hrs. in this airplane, by the grace of God it has not happened to me. I would like to think it is my superior airmanship........but I know better than that.

In this business, everyone including our licensed dispachers, have missed something they should have caught. This is where the Captain must stand his ground and refuse to fly into these conditions. We don't know what the crew of this flight knew when they where dispatched. This is an uncontrolled airport, where there are no braking action reports.

In these type of situations, we all second guess what happened and how we might have handled it differently. Hopefully you won't post about my next mistake from your 68 degree, climate controlled, office chair.

Keep 'em in the green

hey kid

Your guess isn't quite than good, I have more time than that in the DA-20, true not as much as you, but with 5000 TT you are still in the kiddie car range, If you want to go by A/C weight X's flight time you are not even out of grade school yet. Is that old enought to buy drink beer?, althought I have been know to share a beer minors, but they can not drink out of my bottle. BTW end of story the cargo from AOH was trucked to YIP as I understand and flown by your airline

Maybe there was other reason for this!

Has anyone who complains or just BS about this issue! Thinks about maybe there was other reason they run off the runway!

T/R 's maybe did not work, brake failure, too fast speed, etc...
maybe it has nothing to do with braking action!

MU report is not always available!

True, maybe it had nothing to do with braking action.

I used to be based at AOH. There is no control tower and the field is not attended at night. There is no way to get any kind of runway condition reports after hours at AOH. If I remember correctly, "after hours" was from 6 pm to 8 am. Even during the day it was difficult to get good information. If you call the FBO during business hours and ask the condition of the runway after a snow dump, they'll send the line guy (a 19 year-old guy with no aviation or even driving experience, for the matter) out to the runway with the pickup truck and have them test the braking action. I learned quickly not to return to base after it had been snowing, as the runway wouldn't be cleared and, if it had been, there'd be no way to know the condition of the runway unless it looked clear overhead.

The airport has an ILS to a 5000 foot runway. If you stay on glideslope you'll have 4000 feet landing distance remaining.

There is an AWOS on the field.

Drinking beer from my gerber bottle

Look, if this thread was started to find out more information and learn from it that would be great. It just seemed to have turned into a ____airlines is so superior to every one else. The old director of training there did make it a safer operation, but these are still 40+ year old jets and winter is here already.

PilotYip you are right...you have tons more time, but this thread isn't about carrier landings or trucking around looking for russian subs. I have no idea how challenging that must be. I have, however, done this falcon thing once or twice or six winters and not just day time out and backs. Some of us actually have to fly the bad trips and make decisions at all times day and night, good and bad weather. You are right, I only have 5,500+ hours, but they are all in Part 135 on demand freight and most of that in Falcons...that is what this post was about right?

Now if you want to talk about big airplanes, chasing the Russians across the atlantic or that sort of thing....my hat's off to you. You do have a lot of time doing that, I don't.

Pilot1704, most of the T/R's have been pinned or outright removed on the freighter falcons. We are stuck with a decent anti skid system, airbrakes and at most companies (not this one) a drag chute. Kind of sucks eh.

cool!

Pilot1704 good , so actually you try to say that it might have not be pilots fault! Sometimes we dont take in consideration anything else but it must be pilots fault, thats it!

Maybe something else went wrong.

Who knows, I guess they are doing investication at present time about it!
