I went to a school that has self examining authority, and if you failed a checkride you did not get a pink slip. It was treated as a lesson. Does this mean that if you fail a checkride that it wont show up in your PRIA report, or in any other background check?

That is correct. A failed checkride in a 141 program(regardless of self examining authority) is treated as just another lesson. You will not be given a pink slip and it will not show up in your records anywhere. 141 schools are required to report the name and numbers of pass fails every month, but those are only used to monitor the school(you have to maintain a certain pass rate to get 141 re-certified).

Let me know if you have further questions.
