Hi everyone. I was looking at Epic Aviation's website (since I will be visiting them soon) and I noticed on their training page that they use an awful lot of computer sim time in their training packages. The following 3 links show you their course offerings:

I was curious if it was this way at other flight schools. I think that this program is part 141. Is having a large chunk of your early training (PPL, COMM) done in an FTD a good substitute for real-life flying? How do other part 141 schools do it?

The CBI (Computer Based Instruction) is a 28 CD Rom kit designed by the Cessna Pilot school together with the King Family and Rod Machado.
It is a way to meet the 35 hr ground instruction requirement for the 141 PPL training.
Meaning, you buy the kit and study at home.
Great system really, we use it also.
It is NOT simulator time.

lord only knows. i have to visit epic first. i graduate from college may 15, and i had wanted to know for sure where i was going by that time. i was thinking of starting as early as june, but like i said, i have to find a school first since the one in CA fell through. still breaks my heart.

Epic is a good place, when you go let me know, I'll let you know what instructor not to pick!

I instruct out of Epic in the new Daytona office. I've instructed at several other places and I'm happiest at Epic. Send me a PM if you have any specific questions.

While I am past the training phase I do rent there a bit and fly with many others that rent there. The owners and CP have always been very accomodating to me and friends. The planes are super nice and the price is fair. From what I see the instrustors there are very happy and the students are too... Good Luck..
