Wonder if they use bailing wire for rudder cables? :p

Yes, they may be cheap, but what kind of condition are they in? I've heard that those Air Force ones are absolute heaps.

I can't speak for those a/c in particular. However, when I was stationed in Okinawa in 1990, I used to flight instruct at the Aero Club on Kadena Air Base. The a/c there were in terrific shape and very well maintained.

If you have access to a on-base flying club, you will find it a very economical way to learn and build flight time.

Do all military members have access to these flying clubs? If has anyone seen what kind of shape the planes at Maxwell are in?

what kind of shape the planes at Maxwell in?

I have no idea, but, I know someone that will know. I'm only 1.5hr away and I will check this out and let you know ASAP.

Kinda' off topic... but do you have a point of contact for the "Navy Flying Club" in Pensacola, FL? It is kinda' hush-hush, and hard to find info.

Sorry forgot.. do you have a point of contact for the multi in Chandler, AZ? I go home to Arizona for X-Mass and would like to check that out.

J3/J4

I know a place near Lynchburg, VA that rents a J4 for $15 per hour wet and a J3 for $20 hour wet.

The catchs are if you solo it you need to have your own insurance because these planes are not insured.

They did look beat up and old. However, they appeared to mech. sound just not a looker.

Wankel

just not a looker!

Like some of the women i've had, but they sure are fun.
I think all pilot's should start in a cub. A cub is like a sig, they are the "best " at what they were designed to do.

A lot of the number off that Private2ATP site are just plain wrong. I'll save anyone a phone call to Wisconsin, that Geronimo is Burlington does not even exist...

Yup. I checked on that too...

They used to have a short nosed aztec in either manitowoc or sheboygan wisconsin...both places used to be magnus aviation fbo's...so if you called one or the other you could get the info...but anyway, that short nosed aztec was renting at about 99.00 hr. It's been a few years since I rented it...might be worth looking into.

The Geronimo listed in Burlington, WI is actually at Palwaukee Airport in Wheeling, IL. It's listed with Airway Flight Services. Burlington is just their branch office and it's probabally only that price if you rent it out of that office, just because of fuel.

I am looking out my window at the aforementioned Geronimo right now.. .it goes for $140/hr out of PWK.. but there is a required 20 hour checkout at $190/hr dual...

my understanding is they don't rent it out of Burlington at all.. so that $109 rate is impossible to get...
