How long are these new service provider contracts good for? It seems that they are playing catch-up to cover the work they've taken on and may not be able to deliver as promised. Could they possibly lose the new work before 2 years?
How many new planes are definately coming?
What's progected upgrade now?
I live near RDU and have been offered positions at both CHQ and XJT.
Does it look good for an XJT RDU base?
Any help deciding would be appreciated!
Thanks

Another one to think about is AWAC, there is alot of talk about an RDU base.

I currently work at Chautauqua, or actually on the Shuttle side of things.. If you come over now though, you will probably go the 145 or CRJ, they are SO short over there right now. Yes they are playing catch, the whole problem is sim time.. Everybody is growing so fast now there is no CRJ or E170 sim time to be had anywhere, they have even looked over in Europe.. It is an ok place to work, all the people are cool, right now it is about 1.5 to 2 years to upgrade. Probably closer to 2 years. It still has its share of problems just like every other regional out there. Our contract is up this Oct., so things will probably get a little ugly at first, but we should get some new things in the new contract that make this place better. The company has been profitable for thel last 6 years there is no way we are going backwards or taking a pay cut.. As the guy said before this though, I know some guys at Air Wisky that live in your area and commute to DCA, but are hopin for a RDU base and really like working there..

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why would XJT open an RDU base?

Because of the XJT branded flying, it's suppose to be a focus city or something like that. I doubt the RDU base will happen due to the competition with AA which will mean just through flights or whatever you wanna call them.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say most newhires can expect SAT, ONT or LAX as bases due to no openings/shrinking lines at the lovely CAL hubs of IAH, CLE and EWR. Just a guess so don't quote me on that!

you should come to CHQ/SA/REP, especially if you enjoy getting your most fundamental right of seniority taken away when ever the company feels like it. go to skywest of XJET, honesty and accountability goes a long way in this job.

I would stay far far away from CHQ right now/things are going to get VERY ugly over there.

They've told us this is it for bases. Sorry, nothing at RDU.

Hard to say. It seems to be changing a lot lately. Prior to opening SAT, ONT & LAX I'd have said sure. Now LAX & ONT are the junior bases. That said, by the time you get here things could be totally different. At the very least, you could base trade with another pilot once you are at your first assigned base. Best of luck if you decide to come here.

Interesting! I thought it was only Texas and west from there. You learn something everyday I guess.

To the orginal poster: go to XJT. CHQ is starting to get pretty dicey right now. They have been cutting corners for years on the staffing and it is finally starting to catch up to them. Used to be a great company but now the only really good thing about it is the flight crews.

It is hard to say what is going on at XJT. I doubt a RDU base, an east coast base of some kind could be in the works, but right now Cali is the focus for all the new ops. As far as what base to expect as a new hire. About 4 classes ago(a class of 32) 16 went to CLE, 4 EWR, 4 LAX, and 8 ONT. So it just depends on what is open at the time. I would venture a guess that until June 1(when LAX opens), there wont be a large amount of openings in any CAL hub. Then until Aug 1st(when SAT opens) there wont be many openings in any of the CAL hubs. After everything gets settled down it will again become a crap shoot. Once the branded stuff gets going people who previously did not bid it, may bid it depending on how well things are going, but then again if it is going poorly people may bid out of it.

Thanks for your help folks. Master Shake, do you think I could get EWR right away?

I can tell you this: The 2/26 new hire class (32 people) base assignments are:

16 to CLE
10 to SAT
4 to EWR
2 to ONT

However, the needs change constantly. I can tell you that most people do not want EWR. Most want IAH. So your chances are decent. But even if you end up somewhere else, it should only be very temporary.

Xjt Crj ????

When did XJT get CRJ's I was in Greenville, Ms and saw in the paint spot a CRJ 200 or in CO. Colors. IS XJT flying CRJs now?? whom is flying them???
