There is a rumor going around Chautauqua that an agreement is being negotiated for Chautauqua to fly RJs for ATA (70 and 50 seaters?). Maybe this is a way to protect against USAirways.....not sure if that is a good bet or not. Not sure that United, Delta or American would be happy about this since I don't think they would want Chautauqua to help ATA.

Anyone know if this is true??

they would probably just use chicago express dont you think? ATA is not much of a better bet than Airways anyhow...

No No... we need another bankrupt airline to fly for. What will happen if U and Ual pull through?

Maybe BB is looking at RJET buying ATA?

Nah. But I could forsee some sort of partnership; God knows the city of Indianapolis and the BAA needs it after losing the UAL Maint Center. Another airline loss would be devastating. First US, then UA, then ATA. Geez...

I would hope that even if a piece of this rumor is true, Windy City pilots would be protected. All we need is another Wexford/CHQ/RP/Shuttle clusterf**k to make things nice and interesting.

This rumor has legs. At least on the 50 seat side. BB and WH have been in negotiations for a while. Provided ATA can meet the government loan requirements. Don't know about the 170's for them though. I think there are some hoops to jump thru. The numbers being thrown around are about 35 50 seaters. Lots of point to point and leisure market flying. I don't think this will affect how Chicago Express flys for them (except of course, they don't get the growth). Apparently ATA is scrambling for a new direction and this is it. (Coincidentally, CHQ flys approx 35 145's for USAir....hmmm)

For what its worth,

ATRGuy

I have not heard anything about this till now. I really hope we don't get involved. Talked to a senior ATA pilot jumpseating on us and he said it looks like they will run out of cash in another month or two.

Not to mention I have a zillion friends that I went to college with who now fly for Chicago Express. Those poor guys have been waiting for RJs or ANY kind of growth for that matter.... for god knows how long.

yada yada yada

I'll believe it when I see it. I've heard this rumor for the last 5 years. Before it was Chautauqua was going to fly Saabs for ATA.

Thankfully Wexford could come to the rescue.

With Chautauqua. Again.

Their red-headed stepchild in Fort Wayne is very much like Chicago Express... Patiently, or not-so-patiently, waiting for an equipment change or growth, but all of it goes to CHQ.

Maybe Shuttle America and Chicago Express can merge to make an unbeatable Saab outfit? :)

If only each pilot group can figure out how to fly the other's aircraft... Shuttle guys trying to figure out how to handle all the extra power, the Chicos trying to figure out how to get a fully-loaded A-model over 10,000ft on an ISA+10 day with the engine anti-ice on.

I believe CHQ could handle your SAABS, after all they were CHQ's. Remember how the new SA was started??? There isnt one Jet growth annoucment at CHQ that isnt followed by SA folks on here talking about them getting them instead, makes ya wonder just what theyll do to get them.

"it makes you wonder just what they'll do to get them"

Hmmmm...

What are you getting at, KingAirer?

Stormin,
I used to fly at Chico and I remember hearing that rumor 2 years ago. For all the guys/gals at Chicago Express who actually thought that RJs had anything to do with us going union or not, I will still laugh my a$$ off if Chautaqua gets to fly RJs for ATA. I am still waiting for the RJs that Chicago Express was supposed to get "if C8 doesn't go union". If I am not making sense here, I am sure anyone who knew me at C8 knows what I am getting at.

So I guess that the cancer of the regional industry that was known as Mesa, will now be known as Chatauqua (sp?). If they do fly for ATA, and my buddies at Windy City get sh!t on...I hope that UAL, AA, and USAir all drop RP for violation of anti competition clause or whatever was written into the contracts by lawyers to prevent such a thing.

Easy there MayDay. Go pop a cold one and rub one off. None of us at CHQ have heard a word about ATA, nor do we want to fly for them. So go to sublimedirectory.com and blow off some steam.

Yeah... anti-competition. That's why we fly for US, DL, AA, and UA. Talk about 2 pairs of airlines directly competing with one another; I'm sure us flying for ATA would suddenly piss them off. BTW this is nowhere on the rumor mill here at CHQ... some of you guys really need a hobby. Or a girlfriend.

It's True!

CHQ is going to start flying for ATA, just like John Travolta is investing in ATA.
Get a job, and quit spreading rumors.

Perhaps he wants to play the part of Howard Hughes? I though Leo DiCaprio was playing that in an upcoming movie role? For Travolta, this would be the way to gain additional type ratings... I don't imagine it would be difficult for him to put together an investor group if he was interested - plenty of rich Scientologists out there like Tom Cruise (also a pilot)...........
