I just got the offer flying the RJ. I was wondering what base would make for the easiest commute to JAX. Also what is the reserve time for the RJ's at all the different bases. If anyone knows the specifics of the travel benefits I'd appreciate that as well. How many hours could i expect to credit per month in the first year.

Thanks in advance

Lines are not commutable. Out of JAX you have a 2 legger at best. Pick a base and move to it.

Reserve is short/non-existent at 145 bases (with the exception of LGA). Travel depends on your base. Basically you get benefits on code shares that are in your base. So, for example, Louisville gets everything. St. Louis gets American (and I guess Continental now).

The pay sure isn't mainline. But hey, you get to tell everyone you fly a big airplane around for $21 an hour. That's all that counts.

The 170 and 175 is a regional jet. Look who flies them and the pay. Republic Airways does not build lines that you can commute.

STL would be a 1 leg commute and we do teh STL-JAX leg now (atleast 1 a day) its a short overnight. But hey its better than a night on the road.

If you got the CRJ, you only have 3 choices. IAH/SDF & CRaP (CRP).

Since IAH is the only commutable base, and SDF & CRP are 2 leg commutes that would be a wise choice.

The 170/190 series are not RJ's. Someone paints the word "Express" on the side and "Presto!", mainline plane at minor league airline. Sleight of hand that would make David Copperfield jealous.

And for my next trick, watch me make your contract disappear.

Of course it is an RJ.... an MD-88 is an RJ.

A 777 is not

actually, the DC-9 and the 737-100 were desiged as the first "regional" jets.

sadly, rj's are now being flown by pilots too young to have been a passenger in either...

Anybody remember Ozark? Not the recent reincarnation, but the one that merged with TWA? They flew DC-9s on the 119nm route while TWA flew 727s.

Remember "Smoking Sections?" That was funny. I almost always got the row in front of the first smoking row. The force field worked really well.

Right on, Inconceivable!

DC-9-10 series, that NWA flew until recently, carried around 70 passengers.

NWA did regional routes on 727s going from AZO-LAN-DTW.

DL did SBN-CVG in 73's thats now flown by 7 oversold RJ flights/day.

I bet some guys don't remember when there was a time that people didn't wear pajamas, sweat pants, cut off t-shirts and holy jeans and actually dressed up to go flying.

Or to jumpseat!

Amen. It makes me sick when I see the sorority girl at 2pm laying on the floor asleep in the terminal in pajamas or sweat pants. I am only 24 so I wasn't around for the days when you actually had to put on a suit but c'mon, folks just need to use common sense. PJs are not acceptable.

Turn the class down. Go to Skywest or Expressjet. This is not a good place to work at.

Yea go to Express Jet so when they close the doors you get furloughed and skywest is a much better commute skyWEST should tell you enough. Oh wait you can try chicago....good luck with that. Welcome to probably the best regional at this time. In a week who knows. its a crap shoot!
