What's my question???

It's kind of an "open-ended" question. I'm looking for comments, really. I've heard rumors suggesting that Chautauqua will open a CVG base. I'm looking to see if anyone has heard the same rumor, if anyone can give credibility to the rumor, if anyone has any insight with respect to the effect this will have on Comair, (assuming any CQ expansion is for Delta feed and given the current F.U.B.R. situation(s) at Comair), if anyone cares to comment on other Delta feeds opening CVG bases, (Skywest???), etc., etc., etc.

No solitary question on my mind. Inquiring minds want to know.

Anyone? Buehler?

not a rumor, 135 Base opens Jan 1. CHQ went from 70 dep/day in Oct to 91 for NOV.

Not really any "new" DL flying here, we've had the A concourse stuffed for months. I think Ma Delta finally told Bedford they're sick of us flying crews in from all over the universe to staff CVG. Also a guess that our 37 and 50 seat feed has been re-affirmed, although no official word on that. FWIW the reverend told us he did NOT bid on current Comair 50-seat flying, but we responded to the RFP both for the flying we're already doing and for future 76-90 seat opportunities (read 175/190s).

It took long enough for CHQ to have a base there. I'm suprised it didn't happen sooner.

I haven't seen as many CHQ E-145/135 in JFK lately (only one on the ramp the last 3 times I have been there). Someone said CHQ's Departures in CVG rose this month, but it look slike their Departures out of JFK may have dropped, with Comair flying more out of JFK and LGA.

Chautauqua's presence at CVG has been growing for a while. They have even started departures from the C councourse. It probably just made sense to establish a base there. Comair's flying is increasingly being shifted to the Northeast (LGA, JFK, and BOS), a trend which I expect to continue.

I doubt that establishing a base at CVG has anything to do with the RFP. I fully expect Delta to maintain status quo (albeit at lower rates) or close to it. Sure Comair's pilots have "been bad" but we'll be punished soon enough, with either a crappy deal or a crappy 1113(c) imposed contract. Either way, Delta gets what it wants.

I think it means that there is some confidence CHQ is not losing any flying at least.

I agree, I don't think they were in any real danger of losing any. After ACA was forced to pull out of CVG there was a need for someone to step in. CMR was not going to be able to do it all. It took such a long time for them to figure out that a base is cheaper than paying for hotels.

Yes, we could "do it all". But certain pilot groups saw our higher pay scales as an opportunity to under cut us,instead of an opportunity to bargain for the same or better.

I just shake my head every time one of these threads start up. There are a lot of pilots who just don't get it.

like yourself?

I am sure Comair could do it all alone out of CVG. Take a look N of the Comair ramp and you will know they could. I hope those planes will be back in the air under Comair after the RFP. I don't know what DLs deal is with parking those planes. It must cost them a fortune.

I think DL does not want a single regional working any of their hubs alone anymore. CHQ did not gain any flying with the CVG base opening. Someone posted not so long ago on our forum that we have less DL flying compared to last year. This is supported by the fact that a total of 24 FO and I think about the same number of CA slots are moved from SDF and CMH over to CVG. It is not like we have 24 new positions. It is a shift that should have happened long time ago. The amount of dead time we're spending in CVG sitting in the "crew room" is insane. 0515 show for a 0600 SDF-CVG next flight not before a 4h+ sit. I start to know rampers by first names and I've just started. My hunch is that eventually this base will be larger but to simply displace people is expensive. I bet they will try to make other bases miserable so pilots will switch on their own.

Opening this base seems like some kind of confirmation that we won't lose 50 seater flying but knowing DL they can change their mind pretty fast. Nothing indicates new 50 seater flying, if there will be new flying it will be the 170. That is the word at the moment.

This won't change, everyone I've talked about at ASA, Comair, Chautauqua, and Shuttle all say the same thing about the schedule regaurdless of domicile or equipment. Our management has told us that Delta pretty much looks at every flight and if it's not making money it's axed, which means that we all get to sit around collecting our $1.75/ hour. The most extreme one I've had was a scheduled four hour sit in CVG, dead-head to ORD, sit for three and a half more hours, than operate the flight back to CVG. I asked to take an earlier flight so I could get a hotel in ORD, but the said "we're short staffed today, we might need you". Yeah right.

May be after the RFP things will get more efficient. I am just guessing and hoping.

But you are right jseaters from ASA and Comair told me the same thing about the sits. I had days when I sat a total of almost 8 hours. 4:50 then 3:00. It is almost like sitting hot reserve except you don't have to answer your phone. I guess we are all lill' biatches of MomDelta. I just can't wait unti they exit Ch 11 and one nice day the mainline guys stick it right up into their... you know where. If such a thing will ever happen again.
