I was looking on APC at all the different planes NJ flies. Do they use seat locks to keep people from switching around?

Obviously since there is a pay difference between large cabin and base AC I can amagine large cabin is senior. But within AC that are considered "base" are some more senior than others? And if so why is that? Do some planes offer "better" flying?

Thanks for the answers. I amagine you guys are getting sick of posting. I remember the JB guys went through the same thing on here in '01-'03.

Yes. There's a 39-month equipment lock after you switch airplanes. If you switch planes as an SIC, the lock won't keep you from upgrading into any available equipment, but if you end up in a different plane as your first upgrade, any time remaining on your current seat lock will be added to your first upgrade plane. (So if you had 10 months left in your lock and upgraded into the 400XP, for example, you'd be locked into that for 49 months.)

Depends what you mean by "better." For some, "better" means less time in the air and more time at the FBO or hotel. For those guys, the 560 Ultra or 400XP are ideal.

For me, "better" means an APU so I don't freeze my ass off, short-to-medium leg lengths, and a nice variety of airports because the plane can use <5000-foot runways. So for me, the Excel fits the bill nicely.

Others want to do longer hauls, so the Falcon, G200, and X are good choices. The regular Falcon (not the EX) and G200 were fairly senior because they paid the most for senior people. That's changed since the new contract -- they all pay the same. And as far as hiring goes, a newhire can get assigned any of the airplanes, although first pick goes to current pilots, meaning it's not likely to see a 2000EX or BBJ bid go to a newhire. But any of the others? Sure.
 
commuterguy - if you aren't already aware of it, with the passage of the IBB proposal last month, most of the planes now pay the same for an SIC. The only planes that pay extra for an SIC are the BBJ and the Falcon 2000EX/EASy. If one flies any aircraft from the 400XP up through the "classic" Falcon 2000EX, the payscale is the same.

The SIC slot on the BBJ and 2000 EASy have been going relatively senior, so you shouldn't plan on seeing one of those as your initial equipment assignment. That will likely be further reinforced with the recent IBB ratification.

I don't have the seniority lists in front of me, how senior is the junior SIC on the EX? I may want to bid it next year for the pay raise and the anticipated 4-5 yr. upgrade. If a bid becomes available. Any idea?

To put a little more perspective on that, the person in question has a hire date of early December, 2004.
