I usually carry with me in my little bag a headset, kneeboard which I never use, charts, approach plates and the like. The one thing that I never leave the ground without and which is located in my little flight bag is my leatherman multi-purpose cool man tool.

I have to fly a good distance over water to reach the local practice area. If I ever have to ditch, I have my leatherman to cut the seatbelts if so needed.

You know those round, suction cup pads you can put a bar of soap on? We'll, I've got a pilot friend that uses those for covering up the instruments for partial panel work. I've never tried it, but he swears by it.

those at my place of employment have the standard instructor clipboard with the practice area map taped to the back. for me, i just bring my headset, some instrument covers (for both VFR and IFR students), and a pen. all those charts, calculators, notepads, checklists and such...shouldn't the student carry that?!?!

Underware, I bring underware.

Ok, seriously, I bring the flight lesson that we are on. Cessna Multi-Media (CMM) has the ability to print out the lesson that is being worked on. Also, a hood and a pen.

Nobody brings a towel?
A couple of years back I was assigned to a student who brought his "towel" wrapped around his head... being a small (aka hillbilly) PT.61 school my boss let me add my S&W 9MM to my list of stuff to bring to the aircraft:)

No matter what you take as a CFI, be sure to bring a professional attitude to work for every flight. Fly safe out there..........................

I bring the following items:

Kneeboard (which I do not use for writing) to store all my stuff--flight computer, standby notepad, certificates, charts, AFD's, IFR flight file (in case I have to pop-up IFR to get back into the field), etc.

I also bring a headset bag with a fuel strainer, flashlight, and headset.

For writing, I use a standard sized clipboard. It cost $3.95 at Staples and I swear by it. Nothing better for IFR flying or taking notes on students.
