I'm a CFI so I'll have to ask. In response to the original post on this thread, the comment about the CFI sterotype. So, what is the CFI sterotype?
Not being a smarta#$, just wondering.
I don't think it really matters if he was a CFI, it is the whole "bush-league back-seat driver" mentality.
I had a CAP guy in the back of my plane one time (uh-oh, more stereotypes!) who was chastising me for not landing on the south complex on a flight from SBP to LAX.
Now, a bit of history. Once upon a time, American Eagle parked at Terminal 4 at LAX. It was a very quick taxi from the south complex (25L/R), to the gate, and a somewhat longer taxi from the north (24L/R) complex. Since then, we have moved to a remote terminal, which just so happens to be located at approximately the exact geographic center of the airport. Ergo, it does not matter anymore which complex you land on.
I stood up to say goodbye to the pax at the end of the flight, and this yahoo said to me "so, I guess no one had the guts to ask for the south side!" I politely explained that it didn't matter, that the taxi time was equal either way. He kept insisting that it would have been faster to land on the south complex, because it was so much closer. I explained that we had moved, and it no longer mattered. He walked off the airplane, still convinced that we had somehow not done our part. Whatever.
Seems that this guy was also bothering the F/A with his incessant yammering on about his aviation expertise. He was explaining to her in great detail what was going on during the flight, even though I am sure the F/A probably had a much better handle on the flight than he did.
