Heard this school is looking for at least one CFI www.eaa-fly.com

CFI/CFII preferred
Pref. 300 hrs dual given
C172SP and Pa28 time
Minimum 1 year commitment pref.
Expect to teach PPL/IR/CPL ATP/ME

Website has a contact address......
Good luck;)

This is the second mention of this job.

Tell the truth. It's 10 bucks an hour, right? Mostly foreign students? No respect from the boss?

Q: Why would a good CFI job be hard to fill in 2004?

I know these guys, used to instruct there until one year ago. They pay pretty good, $16 an hour and up for flight and ground time, depending on experience even more. They have a very nice operation going, see the website for some pictures of planes and the operation.

They have 4 new 172SPs (The latest just got there with just 70 hrs. on the hobbs), a PA-28 (New paint + interior), an Arrow and a 172M. Their Aztec is in the shop right now to get brand new engines. The plane already looks like new with new paint and interior.

Now, why is it not so easy to fill a position like that? Probably because the owner is picky. He's looking for a mature, somewhat experienced CFI who can handle demanding customers. Since this is not a pilot factory they have mostly locals taking flighttraining and they are used to receive a top service (This is one of the richest areas in FL). Plus he wants someone that's going to stay for a while (the OP mentioned a year). I was there for three years, made decent money and had great fun.

Yes, they do have foreign customers, mostly from germany, austria, switzerland and so on. But they are not there because it's the cheapest place (Look at their pricelist online) but because they have great instructors and very well maintained planes.

If you would like to work in such an environment, drop them your resume. If you have more questions PM me.

Cheers,
Sun'n Fun

This is GREAT news. I was afraid they were just another bottom feeder operator. Phew!!

My interest is for a friend that needs a break. This sounds like just the perfect job for him. I'm sending you a PM.

i'm in the area but have no dual given. looks like im out. the man is keeping me down!

It's the insurance, buddy... The FAA might think you're qualified, but the insurances don't. It's very difficult for small flightschools to get insurance even for somewhat experienced CFIs. There was a good article about that in one of the last AOPA Pilot magazines. The best starting point is always the school at which you got your CFI.

yeah, i understand the insurance. i just like to point the finger. even when it's at the wrong person. gives me something to do:D

Insurance....

The problem is getting "Commercial" insurance meaning business insurance.
There are only like 3 underwriters that still insure general aviation in the whole country!
Sure as a private owner you can get a Cherokee Six or a Lance insured but as a flightschool it is ridiculously difficult 'cause it's a six seater so potentially six families to sue......
A previous place of employment was looking into buying a pristine Twin Comanche for the multi training. Insurance company said no way, they would only insure a Seneca 1 or a non turbo seminole.
Since Flightsafety bought all the decent ones the only Seminole you can get has 14000hrs airframe with a 15000 hrs wingspar AD which basically means new wings but Piper does not make separate sets of wings.
Unfortunately as a new CFI YOU HAVE TO GET SOME DUAL GIVEN to be even remotely competitive in the job market, a lot of flight schools do not have the time or man power to show you the ropes for the first month or so.
Not to sound patronizing but accept ANYTHING to get those couple of hundred hours dual given you can always leave for better pastures later.
Let's try and keep this thread on the first page 'cause there still people out there looking for a good job.
