I am currently trading hours with a student for equal time in his 172. (worth about $70/hour in SFO bay area). Of course, it doesn't pay the rent but helps build time. Consider such arrangements . . .

Hovernut, that looks a lot like an ATP Seminole you have feathered on your avatar.

Seminole...yes. ATP...no. It was a brand spanking new CAA PA-44 I was bringing up from the factory at Vero back to the academy after they fixed a botched paint job. We were at 4000' over SFB when I killed it on an MEI student. Boy those unfeathering accumulators sure are nice in the new equipment!

$25 hr is what I've been charging lately. $30 2 yrs ago. I'm free lance in Houston and things are slow on the South side of town. Not totally unusual for this time of year though.

At my current flight school, instructors are making $1700.00 - $2200.00 a month average. That along with Medical and Dental insurance is a plus to me. I'm just going to stay where I'm at.

Regards,

TA

You guys get paid to instruct? I trade for sex, and also take pigs in trade. Occasionally for a horse.

Is this pay-for-instructing thing new? Next to sliced bread and that whole round-wheel thing, getting paid to instruct is a neat idea. I hope it catches on. I really do.

Lets just hope you only take pigs and horses from your male students...

I am currently making 10 dollars an hour where I work. The day I move on to greener pastures I will have a grin from ear to ear. Instructing is fun and it's a great learning experience, but I am looking forward to making a little more money and moving on to better equipment.

Hey Toy Soldier.
(I was also an 11B once...)

Where do you get your insurance?

Any other freelancers care to comment?

I made $100.00 a week base salary plus $17.00 per hour for flight and ground training as an instructor. Worked out to about $24,000 annually, give or take. Health insurance was a 50/50 split. It definitely was not a bad gig...

Good luck on the checkride. Over-prepare for it, and it will be easy...

Later.

What students? After a year of separation and in the final throws of divorce, I'd settle for a sheep.

But getting paid is always nice. I finally caught Deuce Bigalo on television, and after consideration, I think there really might be a better way to earn that ten bucks...
