how is the CFI job market looking these days? Any suggestions on maximizing employment changes for a new graduate with a fresh CFI ticket?

Approach the school where you intend to do your training for your CPL and CFI.
Consider your training period the interview.
Many school would much rather hire from their own training pool as this guarantees some form of knowledge and quality.
Hiring form the outside takes time and money to find out if they are any good or not.
Be aware of schools that "guarantee" a job as long as you do your training there. You may end up with no students just because they wanted your money.
You can combine your CPL training with your CFI training and even take the CPL checkride from the RH seat to prepare for the CFI ride.

If you are willing to work for sub standard wages jobs are plentiful. This applies to all things aviation.

In 5 years when you complain about the low pay and crummy schedule remember you signed up!

If you're still a CFI after 5 years you might have other problems to worry about.
