FN FAL,

I landed on the RNWY today. Want a pic?

OK...this is too weird, I'm going to have to quit going back and checking the news, because here's a fourth off airport landing, with a pilot who is lucky to still be alive and relatively unharmed. Some good pictures here as well. Looks like the empenage always takes a beat in these types of landings.

Don't be suprised to find an E-6-B in your orange juice...

Hahaha...so did I but I never carry a camera with me. Go ahead...shoot!

:) What I should have said; with the cross wind at PVG today I was lucky to land on the RNWY.......Will check the OJ for a new E-6b.

I hear ya hoss :)

Crosswind landings can be quite challenging. I was rolling along with one last week on a gusty day and I got caught with a situation where it felt like the bottom fell out. It's one thing to work your way through all the rolling and bumps, confidently keeping up with corrections...it's another thing when all the sudden it feels like you're going to fall out of the sky close to the ground.

Be careful out there!

Crosswinds a challenge?! What's the deal, you former Navy?! ;)

Hahaha...well, yes and no. I was with a diving and salvage unit in the Navy. I didn't fly planes there...but I handled a lot of pieces parts though.

The Caravan with a pod is a real bugger in crosswinds. It's almost as if they put the proverbial engine on a barn door to make it fly, then rotated the barn door 90 degrees on it's longitudinal axis.

On this particular day, the crosswind wasn't a full value crosswind...it was more like 30 degrees off the nose. Winds were 18 gusting to 25 at the surface.

"They missed a runway and slammed into an orange grove, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported."

"It was an experimental plane, and investigators said the pilot lost power and radioed the fire department. He landed off Beardall Avenue."

Missed the runway, and radioed the fire department? Gotta love reporters. Wonder what frequency the fire department uses.

Well, apparently you're a much better pilot than I am.....I radio the fire department every time I'm inbound! They appreciate the heads up....gives 'em more time to get geared up. :D

HAHA, They come out and wave you in each time eh? :)

Glad to see a string of successful emergencies.
