With reference to being a sim/ground instructor in the training department at a major airline, what are the required certificates beyond an ATP? I have been given conflicting information requiring everything from CFI/II, MEI, etc to just the requirement of passing the fundamentals of instruction (FOI) written. Any guidance one way or the other would be greatly appreciated...

Part 142, 121 or 135 instruction no CFI required, just appropriately rated, usually ATP and type. Which, incidentally, you can get in the sim and no medical cert required, which is why this is a popular occupation for retired pilots. Or it was, until they stayed past their expiration dates, soiling themselves and falling asleep. Anyway, December of 2012 and things will slowly start getting back to normal.
