Description: The Chief Pilot is a flying position that includes overall operational and administrative responsibility for the flight department, its corporate aircraft and flight crew, scheduling and maintenance personnel. This role will provide leadership in the development, implementation and execution of comprehensive operating polices and procedures for domestic and international aviation operations, conforming to all FAA operating, safety and maintenance regulations, including both Part 91 and Part 135. The Chief Pilot will be responsible for effective development and management of operating budgets, training schedules and personnel assignments, and continuous improvement, cost containment and aircraft utilization strategies. This position is the primary aviation department interface with the executive management team and functional department heads of Legal, Finance, Tax and Human Resources, among others.
Duties and Responsibilities
' Directly supervise, establish performance goals and provide periodic performance reviews for all flight crew members, maintenance and scheduling personnel.
' Establish and manage training and certification programs and schedules for pilots and maintenance technicians, including initial and recurrent training and proficiency reviews.
' Develop and issue periodic aircraft and aviation department reports and analysis, including aircraft utilization, budget variances and expense management.
' Prepare ARs (Appropriation Requests) and EAs (Expense Authorizations) for major capital and exceptional MRO expenses.
' Complete, maintain and submit FAA reports, as required, including pilot records, pilot flight/duty hours, pilot logs and maintenance record keeping; Sign for and accept FAA documents, directives and authorizations.
' Negotiate and manage fuel, maintenance and service contracts.
' Develop, recommend and execute departmental short-and-long-term planning.
' Optimize aircraft utilization for both company use and charter.
' Provide leadership and direction to flight, maintenance and scheduling personnel to ensure the highest standards of safe, reliable, efficient and customer-oriented corporate aircraft service.
' Develop and administer safety, security and confidentiality policies for aircraft use, both domestically and internationally, in order to protect the aircraft, passengers, company assets and intellectual property.
' Implement and ensure conformance with company policies with respect to personnel practices, code of conduct, travel policy compliance, expense authorization and control, performance planning and professional development.
' Remain informed on the latest developments within the business aviation community, including FARs and other Federal, state, local and foreign regulations affecting flight operations, furnishing flight crew members with the latest information and procedures required by the FAA, DOT, NTSB, TSA and Foreign Government Civil Air Authorities.
Requirements: Qualifications and Experience
' 10+ years aviation experience (5+ years as aviation manager/chief pilot in a corporate flight department preferred)
' Three to five years international flight experience, minimum 6 trips each year
' Current FAA ATP Certificate and FAA 1st Class Medical Certificate
' Type Rated and PIC qualified in CE750 or CL604 aircraft (both Type Ratings preferred)
' Minimum 5000 PIC hours in Turbojet aircraft
' Bachelors degree in Aviation or Business preferred
' No accidents, incidents or FAA sanctions within last five years (none preferred)
' Strong planning and organizational skills
' Excellent leadership and communication skills, both oral and written
' Ability to foster teamwork between technical, skilled and administrative personnel, and with other functional departments
' Strong computer skills to include both business and aviation-specific applications; Proficient in use of web-based resources for trip planning, navigation, fuel management, weather and international clearances
' Knowledge and experience of both FAA Parts 91 and 135 regulations relating to flight planning, pilot competency, training and flight hours, aircraft maintenance and Operational Control
' Working familiarity with all aspects of owning, operating, maintaining and hangaring mid-to-large cabin business aircraft
' Required to work various hours and days necessary to support company and charter aviation requirements
