a couple years ago, we almost took over a route served by a cargo caravan, between puerto rico and turks/caicos.

the reason was the turks/caicos gov't didn't think it was safe to fly single engine over the ocean and they won't approve it (i think it was fed ex and i think they brought in an F-27 to replace the caravan)

the us gov't caravan crash in columbia (engine failure) got me thinking about it

If you're talking about N1116G on February 13th, what makes you think it was engine failure?

Engine Failure?

I'm sorry, a Caravan on a military contract, flying over hostile FARC (Columbian Rebles) territory. Engine Failue would be the LAST thing I would consider. Sounds like small-arms fire to me.

I wonder if Pratt will get sued for an uncontained engine failure. Not for parts getting out, but for bullets getting in!
