Haven't heard many CDL questions on an interview gouge, unless it stands for something other than Commercial Drivers License or, more probably, Configuration Deviation List.
A configuration deviation list is a list of items (usually external airframe) that may be missing from the aircraft and not adversely affect the flight characteristics, therefore not requiring an MEL or ferry permit, such as wingtip fairings, light bulb covers on stinger lights, etc.
Anyone else have an idea what CDL might mean on an interview?
that makes sense. I have known of the limitations of static wicks and such, but I have never heard it called that.... so much for Flight Safety training : )
I agree with the rest CDL = Configuration Deviation List. Don’t know of any other aviation related abbreviations.
Was the question asked in conjunction with MEL?
MEL/CDL are normally placed in the same binder. The CDL is also used to find penalties for limit weights and increased fuel consumption as a result of missing or inoperative parts.
at the time I didn't know they were related - now it makes more sense. I looked that up in the AIM though and there is no CDL info. Where might one find that FAR 121???
Do a web search and download Parts of the "AIR TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS INSPECTOR'S HANDBOOK" FAA Order 8400
The part you want is:
CHAPTER 4. MEL AND CDL
SECTION 6. Describes CONFIGURATION DEVIATION LISTS
