Does anyone have any recomendations on catalog cases? Do the vinyl ones hold up? I can't really afford $250+ for a leather one, but will invest if it's really worth it.

If you don't have money (read Regional Pilot), the concensus seems to be to go to OfficeMax or Staples and get one of their cases.

There's a cheap pressboard model that runs about $30 and takes just about 1 year of CRJ abuse and rainy days before it gives up the ghost.

The $50-60 models with vinyl or nylon shells seem to last longer (in the range of 2-3 years).

Then you can spring for leather anything, anywhere that will run you +$100 to $275 and seem to be virtually indestructable. I'm lucky in that I never had to buy a new case - I got an old Scott hand-me-down that was built in the early 80's. I've got scuff marks like the thing has seen elephant stampedes everyday but other than a tear in an inside divider, the case is perfect. I'd estimate this case has something like 12-15 years of experience (having taken most of the nineties off).

Do a "search" on flight case / flight bag and you will get lots of info.

I have been using a tech bag made out of ballistic nylon for years. Holds 4 jep binders, a 135 operations manual, 3 cell mag light, folders in the expanding file set up, a calclulator and all the pens you can stand to loose on a trip. Picked it up at office max I believe.
