anybody have a list of all the cass carriers, and whats up with the express carriers ex. UAL express not being able to use the cass system?

The most current list we have in Sabre is as follows:

Alaska
Horizon
American
American Eagle
UPS
Continental
United
Atlas
Northwest
Executive

Haven't heard much about the express carriers, in fact you don't hear much about new airlines coming on board at all. I just check the list periodically and see which are new. I wish there was a way of keeping us informed when a new airline makes it on the list.

The reason you don't hear of any express carriers is because they are not allowed to join. Currently the CASS program is in a "test" phase that is supposed to end around April '05. As part of the testing phase agreed to by TSA/FAA officials, only ATA member airlines may join. Most Regionals [Express Carriers] are RAA members as such they are barred from joining until the test is over. American Eagle was able to join because they are part of AMR Corp wich is an ATA member. Same with Horizon [AAG i think it is]. I believe Delta's management agreed to pay for CASS as part of their new agreement terms. JetBlue and Southwest should be online sometime early next year. My guess [and hope] is come April the test will be complete and everyone will join CASS and we can get back to a quasi pre September 11th jumpseating system.

Delta stated after our last TA that we would be eventually going to CASS sometime in 2005.

I thought it was in your last TA. ? ? ? (Which is no longer a TA(Tentative Agreement), since it was ratified by the membership. Now it's a Letter of Agreement, right?)

Tony C,

You sure a stickler for correct verbage. You are correct, thanks to us giving up billions, we will get CASS. How about you guys? Can we ride in your jumpseats yet? I honestly don't know...

I'd say you got the short end of the stick, even with the contractually guaranteed CASS "clause." Before you get riled up, rest assured I'm sincere in expressing my sympathy for you in that regard. It still doesn't seem like your company is willing to sacrifice to the benefit of the company on the same scale that has been "forced" upon you.

CASS was promised by FedEx management, but has yet to be delivered. As you may be aware, we are currently in contract negotiations. The Company controls the CASS card, and the Company enjoys control. We expect offline jumpseats, we expect CASS, we expect improvements in work rules, pay rates, and many other aspects of our Collective Bargaining Agreement. It is my personal opinion that we can also expect a fight.

Until that is resolved, I regret that we cannot yet carry offline jumpseaters. A thread on FlightInfo recently spelled out the problem in more detail. Our apologies until it's worked out.

How much does it cost the airlines to join CASS?

If you are talking about a fee to join the system, I don't think there is one.
However, there is a cost involved for each airline to get their computer systems updated to be able to interface with the CASS servers. Depending on the size of the airline, this can be expensive. So naturally most companies are not going to do it just to be nice to their pilots, it has to be negotiated.

FYI: if things go as planned, Aloha will be added to CASS in Dec.

Hi!

We heard that it would be a $5K fee for our airline to join CASS.
