got a call today...12/30/03...from the CP at Cape Air. They're starting up their recruitment process again. My resume I sent in back in March or something like that...well....it still worked fo rme as i got a call. However since then i found work and politely let them know.

So get your Sh** in and get a good job. good pay. good place to be or start out and learn at....and actually save some money while youre at it.

Cessna 402 Captain Requirements

POSITION: Cessna 402-C PILOT
REPORTS TO: Steve Phillips/ Chief Pilot
HOURS: Full Time
PLACE: Cape Cod and Islands, Southern Florida, and Caribbean

DESCRIPTION:
• To be a Captain of a Cessna 402 C, ensure the safety of our passengers and promote the spirit of MOCHA HAGoTDI.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be highly knowledgeable of the company manual, FAA Regulations, Operations specifications, flight manuals, and other instructions pertinent to duties.
• Must have 1500 Total Flight Hours.
• Must have 200 multi-hours.
• Must have ATP.
• Must have First Class Medical Certificate.

Hmmm, let me think about this one, Mr. Flame Bait.

Perhaps since Cape Air flies over 1/2 million pax per year---9 at a time, with 49 airplanes, in 3 regions (New England, Florida, the Caribbean), it can humbly qualify.

I might add that for a time in the late 90s/early 2000s Cape Air was the largest unaffiliated regional in the world, based on annual pax. (They no longer claim to be "unaffiliated," as they serve as a Continental Connection on some routes). They perform 120,000 operations a year, and have some of the best trained pilots in the industry.

Flying the right size airplane for the right markets, and making a profit, all the while having a good time might not fit your definition of "a regional airline," but it works good for us thanks.

49 402's in 3 regions 530,000 pax a year makes them a regional airline. And the fact 7 destinations in New Eng. 8 destinations in FLA and 5 in the Carib.

Cape air is about the only airline out their that deserves the name of regional. As they stay within the region their flights originate from. How regional are airlines like the comairs, tsa's, Chqs, asa etc etc doing flights like CVG-NAssau or Columbus-FLL.

All airlines hire only those pilots they can envision as future captains. Cape Air is no different in that regard. They do, however, have a unique hiring constraint based on the fact that they operate the majority of their flights single pilot (autopilot in lieu of SIC). Therefore, the vast majority of their new-hires have a multi-engine ATP.

It is rare, however, that Cape Air doesn't have at least one nugget in a class of 8 new-hires who isn't a 1300 hour-or-so pilot. They hire him/her to fly the mail between Hyannis and Nantucket as PIC, and fly SIC with those captains who have less than 100 hours PIC in 400 series reciprocating Cessnas.

Once junior has 1500 total, plus the requisite 500 x-c (50nm) Cape Air typically pays for the extra training and upgrade to ATP in return for a gentlemen's agreement that the new captain stay on for a year.

Cape Air Info Please???

I was wondering if it is easy to get a position flying out of Boston. Will I be able to stay in Boston all year or will I have to move in the winter. Does the company pay 100% of the health insurance/dental plan. If not what does it cost for a faimly of four. Does anyone know the starting wages and if a matching 401 K is offered. Please post details on the benefits.

The RAA (Regional Airline Association) recognizes the 402 as a regional airline airplane. Take a look at the web site. It even lists some single engine airplanes as regional Airline aircraft.

Touche!! I guess I should have asked if they are strictly a single pilot operation. But thanks for the info. I have slightly over 1000 now with over 600 multi, so I'll give it a shot.

Cape Air pays duty time not flight time. Starting salary is around 25.000, based on a 40 hour week. Most people work more in the busy seasons, and depend on overtime pay in order to make a living.
There are no requirements to not commute, but scheduals don't make it easy. I suppose it depends on where you live. There seems to always be people looking to share crash pads.
Lots of good people to work with. It can be fun if you enjoy "real flying".

Bos is a pilot base at Cape Air from late April until late October. It has gone fairly junior the last two summers, but always fills up. Depending on where you live, Hyannis isn't too far to go.
