Indiana cities push for airline flights to Indianapolis

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Plans are in the works for an airline to start making regular direct flights to Indianapolis from South Bend and Evansville, officials said.
The South Bend Airport Authority on Thursday gave preliminary approval to the proposal by Massachusetts-based Cape Air to offer daily flights on Cessna planes that could carry up to nine passengers on an hour-long route.
The arrangement, which would begin Oct. 31 and last for at least seven months, also would include Evansville-to-Indianapolis flights, said John Schalliol, the South Bend Regional Airport's executive director.
"I just think there's real potential in the future to make this a real viable alternative to driving your car down to Indy," Schalliol said. "A lot of people won't do it initially, but I think over time they'll try it."
The South Bend airport last had regular flights to Indianapolis in 2005 before they were cut because of an airline bankruptcy, Schalliol said.

Cape Air still must approve the flight arrangement, as must the U.S. Department of Transportation. Cape Air offers regional flights in the Cape Cod area, along with Florida, the Caribbean and Micronesia, according to the company's website.
The South Bend airport currently has regular flights to several cities outside Indiana, including Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Detroit.

What's Cape Air's jumpseat rider rules on the 402?

You guys CASS?

CASS is coming to Cape Air and very very soon. Just awaiting final approval. But we don't need CASS to take jumpseaters on the 402, just open seats. We have reciprocal agreements with just about everybody.

Ahhhhh, let's see.....

C-402, 10 seats, 9 passengers, that means.........

Hi!

There are no FOs at Cape Air.

YIP

PS-I heard also opening PDX base.

Cliff.....

While you are technically correct that there are no F/Os at Cape Air, there certainly are occasions that require 2 pilots. Cape Air has a very conservative high mins policy, so it's not unusual to see 2 pilots when it's IFR

I would not say it is very conservative. Add 1/2 not to exceed 1 mile for precisions nothing for non-precision approaches, until you have 100 PIC. Wind greater than 25 knots 500-2 until you have 200 hours PIC. Runs very similar to some required 121 high mins, but 135 no such requirement, except trying to provide a safe operatinig environment.

Currently operating two ATR-42's in Guam under CO banner. One just returned from C check and the other is getting it's C check now. Both expected to be operating back in Guam by Christmas? The flight schedule has been challenging with only one a/c in Guam since August. The group in Guam has done a great job.
