canceling comcast, DSL without home phone?

Can't put up with comcast bs slow and interupting service any more, anyone know if it's possible to get DSL without a phone connection?

I use a cell phone and don't have a home phone line.

I am in the same boat as you. No home phone using comcast cable modem. Where I live there is a company called Clearwire that is offering highspeed wireless internet. Apparently they are using cell technology.

comcast is cable and it's the only cable net provider where I live, it's ok when it works, but it is slow and doesn't work half the time, the worst cable net I've used so far.

I just canceled Comcast for a flurry of poor service, including not coming to fix my cable after daily requests for a week. Then the guy that was supposed to pick up my digital cable box and modem missed his appointment, so I didn't answer the door. I ended up taking the stuff back myself.

So I went to Radio Shack to pick up a router receiver/antenna, or whatever you call those things (as well as a set of rabbit ears for the TV). Turns out there are a couple of unsecured routers in my building, so I'm getting a good signal for nothing.

Also, Comcast got their digital equipment back, but never bothered to turn off the regular cable. Soooooo, I have high-speed internet and cable for the low, low price of $0.

Being the honest guy I am, I even told Comcast that I'm still getting cable TV. They haven't done anything about it.

My Comcast internet/ high definition TV has been lightning fast for well over a year and a half, even with three different computers running at the same time. Kept MSN DSL for a backup for a while, but didn't need it.

My only complaint, is that is cost's too much!

We're in IND and have Comcast digital voice, cable TV and High Speed and everything works fine.

Had DSS and had so many TRW+'s that we lost our signal half of one summer. The SBC phone service out here went out when it rained from aforementioned TRW+'s. And, we had dial up before Comcast, so anything is an improvement.

No doubt, a large company can be a pain in the a$$ but Comcast hasn't screwed us...yet.TC

Unfortunately, the answer is "highly unlikely." I use Verizon DSL and am extremely satisfied with it, but you have to have a phone line. If you can find a provider that offers "dry DSL" then you might be able to. However, they will probably charge more for this as an incentive to get the whole package. With that said, it would probably cost the same as comcast to get a phone line and regular DSL.

I've been getting Free Comcast cable for the last 5months, due to everything from Bad "down" speeds which have not been fixed to bad CS, reason, due to a high signal coming into the house, Right now comcast Corporate are handling the case and its like they could not give a F.

I should be 6000down, some times during the day it will stay around there. most often its 3000down.

Maybe someday they will fix it....

I thought I was the only person in the country that had problems with comscast. They have been at my house 4 to 6 times along with at least 20 phone calls the past 4 months. Problem is they are the only show in town.
Can somebody e-mail this thread to tec support.

I heard a company that is developing a way to transfer through an electrical outlet. It should be in a trial period right now in some city. Supposedly is just as fast if not faster then cable.

You have to have a home phone line, although our DSL worked for three weeks after the phone line was disconnected.

The DSL line was just as bad for connections and had worse transmission rates than the cable. The cable folks, Adelphia, are bankrupt, and it's another telecommunications customer choice of the lessor evil.

Unsecured networks are great, if they are connected to the internet; just remember to keep your firewall, anti-spybot, and anti-virus programming running and current while you surf. Folks that aren't smart enough to secure their network aren't smart enough to have virus scanners and have a pile of nasty stuff to dump on your computer. Free comes with a price.

I've had Comcast cable internet for two years, after having DSL for a year and a half. The difference in speed is worth the extra cost. My cable internet has gone down perhaps three times since I've had it, the last being the day before yesterday. Considering that nothing is one hundred percent foolproof, I really have no complaints.
