I said it before I saw it in the news, and I'm just stating my opinion based on the facts.

I don't see whats so difficult to understand. UAL sells tickets for below cost. Doesn't that hurt the other healthy airlines operating on that route? I don't think you need to actually become an airline pilot to figure out the economics of it.

I'm already a CEO but my company actually makes money. I'd never make it as an airline CEO because I don't make my employees work their butts off and then screw them.

They have the resources to make their employees work for peanuts and hammer the heck outta the no-frills guys. [emphasis added] Bankruptcy court will let'em do it too!
What resources would those be Vik? CASM cost so uncompetetive that even if the pilots were volunteering their time, they still couldn't compete against the LCC's? Maybe you're refering to their mountain of oppressive debt? No, that's a liability.

The only people that are going to get "hammered" are the fine employees of United, their stockholders and creditors. Read some history instead of articles. Also, don't bring your "multiple degrees in economics attitude' onto a board used by folks that have been putting food on the table with stick and rudder most of their adult lives, without expecting to face some derision for your half-baked opinions.

I love flying and had to write one to get a degree. What else would I have written it on?

You're right, I couldn't do any worse. I don't think anyone could. I actually had *some* hope for UAL when Tilton came in thinking he was an outsider and hoping he would see the situation differently and fix it. But alas, he's *exactly* like the boob before him.

I can't believe people still aspire to fly for airlines like UAL over much better ops like SWA. I just met an instructor last week that told me he would love to fly for UAL.

Vic,

I'd have to agree with you. With your qualifications you could easily take over as a major airline CEO. Certainly you couldn't do any worse.

Multiple degrees and a thesis...;) :p  ... you are killling me!

If you don't get the CEO job you could make a killing as an airline stock analyst.

BS

Like I said, I stated my opinion based on facts and before I read that news story.

Resources = Bankruptcy Court aka "I don't have to pay my bills while everyone else does"

I agree with you there. UAL employees are getting shafted. I have close family friends that are pilots at UAL and FAs for UAL. I hear it from them at least once a week. Its a sad situation and the management over there has made it a sad situation on purpose to take full advantage of the Ch.11 filing.

My opinion: you're turning out to be an unarmed opponent in a battle of wits. Stop while you're ahead. No wait, on second thought, keep responding individually to every post that's critical of your conclusions. It's kinda fun to watch somebody defend the indefensible.
