Yesterday I got an offer by colgan. Today I get offered a position at Pinnacle. Training dates for both are end of Oct. Can I say yes to both for now so that if one puts on a freeze or cancels a class I'm not screwed? Colgan said they are sending an official offer in the mail. Pcl said to call back and let them knnow and then they'll start the background check.

Dare I say it, go to Colgan. While I think Pinnacle has a good pilot group, their future is too uncertain.

Colgan dude! duh

You can accept both offers, but at least call and let them know before class starts that you won't be there. I think it shows no class or maturity to no show and no call. Besides, you never know if you may need to get into the next class if airline number one does not work out.

I agree 100%. Not calling is very unprofessional and immature.

Think the company would give you two weeks notice if they are going to cancel a class?

Think about number 1. Nobody cares about you but you and your mom.

His mom stopped caring about me years ago.

Nobody said anything about 2 weeks notice. Just call the friday before class. Very unprofessional not to call.

Give them enough time to call somone else to fill your class slot.

Who knows, you may end up calling them back up in 6 months and asking for that job after all.

Colgan are you freaking kidding me. Oh got lets not start with "I just want to get a quick upgrade" theory. OK and then what?

Check out 2nd year pay at Pinnacle to Colgan FO, and even if you make 2nd year Captain thats it. Your topped out. Besides no union at Colgan so what you see is not what you get.

OK for real, to choose between the two, think about your short term and long term goals, and where you want to live. Colgan offers the best SHORT term gain, and almost NO long term gain. I don't know about Pinnacle that much, but at least at Pinnacle when its your seniority to upgrade you don't have to fly to MNZ and interview for your captain job and then be told NO you can't be a captain because you called in sick once.

The quick upgrade at Colgan is only for some, not for everyone. Roll the dice!

PS. They both suck, hold out for a better Regional.

Take the earliest class possible with Pinnacle and see if you can delay for a month or two with Colgan. Give them an excuse, they should understand. If they like you enough to hire you, they should be willing to wait for you. That way you have a safety just in case some disaster happens during your initial. After passing your IOE at Pinnacle, politely decline the class at Colgan. Or do it the opposite way if you prefer Colgan for some reason. My advice though...take the jet. I've had many FOs that I have flown with that have been previous employees of Colgan/Commutair etc.

No shows all the time

Airlines on the entry level experience no shows all the time, they will not surprised. In fact having pilots leave ground school for another job is not unknown either. Keep both options open until the day you start ground school. One of our pilots had a class date at ATA in the spring of 2003 or 04 to start on a Monday, they called on Friday before and said the class is cancelled, since he had not turned in his ID, he kept his job at our place. I would also recommend Cogan, probably get PIC time there much faster.

Do what you think is correct. Don't blow either off. Be professional as you might need them in the future. Remember the choices you make now, as professional or unprofessional as many suggest will come back to you in the future. Certainly, don't just not show up. Someone who actually wants that job will be bumped because of that little stunt. Good luck and either way you go make the best of it, it is all up to you on how much you like it and the your future.

Reading this thread reminds me of my situation;

I'm in a Federal Penitentiary serving a dime for attempted manslaughter. I've been offered prison sex in the laundry room and prison sex in the factory.

Can I accept both and then turn 'em both down the day before it's supposed to happen? I don't want to burn any bridges in case I need protection down the road...

I love all the people bashing Colgan who never flew for them and fly some jet where they will be in the right seat for 10 years and are told 2 years when they get hired.

What if?

So suppose you don't pass IOE, then what? You still gotta fess up that you failed IOE & were let go.
Best is just go to the one you wanna and do your research, which airline suits you in all aspects.

Fess up when? He already has the job with both. When would he have to explain anything? Keep all your options open for as long as you can.

Just ask airline #2 for a later class date if they have one.

I was in the same boat some time ago and I accepted 3 offers, and then, I let 2 of them know about 2 weeks prior the training class that I was not interested. Never burn a bridge in this industry.

Thanks guys, your comments have been very helpful. I never even thought about going through training with one first if I can push back the other one. Does anyone know when the background check is complete? I'm worried that if some fluke happens (like I forgot to report a driving violation) and they kick me out that then I'll have to report that I was kicked out of training on later interviews. Thanks in advance.

We had a guy jump ship during new hire indoc, week 2 of ground school, turned out it was a great move for him. Weigh all the options: commute, pay, etc. and do what you gotta do for you.

Good luck!

Didn't he half to pay? Colgan has you sign an agreement for $16000.
