How on earth is this thread up to 3 pages? It was a yes or no question, for heaven's sake!

The autoland system is limited to the following wind conditions:
• Headwinds to 25 kts.
• Tailwinds to 10 kts.
• Maximum Crosswind Component 15 kts.
• For all actual LWMP Cat II/IIIa operations, the maximum crosswind component on the landing runway is 10 kts.

Do Not Conduct Autoland Operations If:

• Align (ALN) mode is not annunciated on an FMA by 100 ft radio altitude.
• Either engine becomes inoperative at an altitude greater than fifty (50) ft above the runway.
• Automatic Ground Spoiler Actuating System is not armed and operational.
• Any unusual control position or other abnormal conditions exist in the manual flight control system.
• “RUDDER CONTROL MANUAL” Light is illuminated.

Tell your neighbor that contrary to the lay-persons understanding an auto-land, because of the increased FGC monitoring required, can be a higher workload environment for the crew then an ordinary landing.

If it were possible to harness the power of useless BS, FI could easily solve the energy crisis.

We answered yes, then elaborated. That OK with you?

One time recently jumpseating in AA's actual to ORD though, the answer was NO. CA was concerned with the autoland capability of this specific tail no., and planned and briefed it on a nice VMC day into ORD. AT flare height the FMA displayed 'NO FLAR', both guys said it and the CA gripped it. No prob landing, just a little excitement and a writeup.

Remember one of the 'actual writeups found in aircraft logbooks'?

oops. Hit the wrong button.

Continuing . . . writeup -

Discrepancy: Autoland very rough

Corrective action: Autoland not installed on this aircraft
