MY 1st POST WITH THE MAC DADDY MacBook!

People,

Yo gotta get one of these fly*ss notebooks. For real!

Ive never in all my life bought a computer product that worked when I plugged it in. My wife who hates computers is still up rippin CD's to the Ipod. Kids love it, momma loves it, and Daddy is man today! All for just $3500.00.

Seriously, this computer rocks like nothing Ive ever seen.

I liken the Mac experience to any other appliance in my home--it works when I want it.

Seriously, think about all the cr@p your PC puts you through. Would you accept that from your toaster? Or a table saw?

See thats the problem with the MAC...

It gives access to people who have no business using a computer.

Just like the automatic transmission has allowed people to Drive who have no business being on the road.

And Cessna Citations. Now anyone can be a jet pilot. Please note the homurous tone.;)

you need the browser Opera, Safari is not the best at reading or figuring out html. Firefox works well, but OPERA is better. CA1900, were you at CommutAir?

Opera is indeed very good, and is now free. I just hadn't used it in a while, so it kinda slipped from my mind.

Firefox will still likely be my primary because of its plug-in system, but O is definitely a great one to keep on hand. Its "speed-dial" front page is very slick!

And yes, I was indeed at CommutAir; finally left last year for NJA, and am very happy with the move.

He's seen the light! Every little detail, from the charge LEDs on the battery right down the box the computer came in, is designed with a purpose, not just thrown together to pad the feature list.

Glad you're having a blast with it; it only gets better!

All for just $3500.00.

.
I didn't pay that much for my car.

If you see a 1993 White Dodge Caravan, with peeling paint job and a "I'd rather be flying NETJETS Citation X" license plate frame ...

Waive at me. Wife says the neighbors keep asking when I am going to get rid of it. Hell. it still runs.

LOL, he must have gotten the grand-daddy machine, with the giant display and all the trimmings! Mine was $1299, and they come as cheap as $1099 (and very well-equipped at that price). Then again, I'm just an FO, so I get what I can afford. :D

Plenty of knowledgeable nerds have Macs these days. I used to be a Linux systems administrator and web programmer. Somewhere in there I did some FORTRAN 77 and MATLAB programming as well.

The Macbook Pro has really become THE platform of choice for a lot of techies. I put X11 and Parallels on it and I can pretty much do anything.

Plus, there's nothing like sitting down in an FBO, opening the lid, and surfing the internet in 15 second while the poor guy with the Dell is still clicking away trying to set up a wireless connection.

I didn't say knowledgeable Geeks don't use MACs....

Just that people who don't know jack about computers are able to use them.

Sort of like the way the military trained pilots. You practically had to be able to disassemble and reassemble the engines and other systems BLINDFOLDED... before they let you fly the plane.

Compared to the ATP mills where they gouge you for the tests and the checkride. Now pilots out there who don't know jack about how the fuel contol works on a turbine engine ... etc..

If we made it HARDER to get your pilot certificates like they do in Europe ... there would be fewer pilots available and our paychecks would be HIGHER!

Now people work in IT departments don't know what HEX code is... never mind be able to write software with it or good old zero's and ones.

Ahh, I know you now. you're the guy in class arguing with the instructor about acceleration schedule, deceleration schedules, evacuation bellows, p3 limiters, etc. 1 minute before lunch time!

I think i've flown with you CA1900. We had PC v. MAC discusions. PC finally fell out of favor with me. Bought the MAC and never looked back.

Oh, and back on topic...

If I had to pick one thing for you to put on your Mac: get Quicksilver. It's kinda like an FMS in that it will be mildly confusing for a couple of days. Then it will change the way you use your computer.

In its simplest form, I use it to launch programs instead of browsing for them. But it will do oh so much more if you get curious.

Hey man! I still bring my HP 42S on flights. I never get an excuse to convert BIN to HEX anymore though. It makes me kinda sad.

Cool, I'll check it out! I've been using DragThing for years as a launcher, but I'm always up for trying something new. Thanks for the tip; downloading it now.

One other note about the mac. Since is Unix based, its possible to download free linux programs (called "packages"). That opens up a whole world of possibilities.

I have a mac notebook for the road and a PC at home. I converted the home PC over to Ubuntu several months ago and have not looked back since.
