I have been wondering why some pilots have already received interview calls (same time and background) and I applied before them. Not that anyone is calling, but if they had the chances are high that I missed the call. I have caller ID and I don't answer “Unknown Callers.” I do answer if an area code is displayed. Have you guys noticed if the company name is displayed? Will a company leave a message? Would they follow up with an e-mail? Should I change my phone habits? When my wife answers and there is a slight pause, she hangs up on the assumed telemarketers. So I’m sitting here wondering, how many times has she hung up on JetBlue?

lol...your phone habits sound exactly like mine, except that if i were waiting for a telephone call for a job i would dam sure be answering the thing

FWIW,
SWA showed as an "out of area" ID on my Southwestern Bell Caller ID, and they did leave messages.

Peace,
DP

Ditto previsous poster, SWA People department usually shows as unknown number on my cell phone when I've talked with them.

Answer your phone man!!

FYI..Most airlines (HR deprt's) block their phone numbers, and also change those number all the time.

Please answer your phone ALL THE TIME, and don't take any chances.

Best of luck.

I've seen every different kind of example on this one. I will say that the biggest interview call I have received came from a "PRIVATE" number on a Saturday night. I would wait to find out who is on the other end, then let 'em have it with both barrels if it's a telemarketer.

Phone Habits

CCDiscoB,

My suggestion is to answer every call and not take chances. JetBlue will send you an email when they offer an interview. FedEx and SWA will call and follow up with a letter. Granted, companies like FedEx and SWA will call again if you don't answer, but will they skip you and go to the next person down the list to quickly fill up an interview class? I didn't want to take that chance. I check in with the People Department each month and usually have to leave a message. When they return the call, I get an, "Unknown Caller" on my cell phone (no caller ID on the home phone). That's my two cents' worth of advice. Happy Holidays. I hope you get a call for an interview as a Christmas present.

Fedex, Alaska and ATA all displayed on my home caller id and they all left messages. On my cell, the number displayes but unless they are in my address book, the name won't display.

BTW, if it's a telemarketer calling, just ask for their home number and ask if you can call them back during dinner. :D

Telezapper

For what it's worth, you might consider connecting a Telezapper to your phone line. Telezappers emit a tone that hangs up and knocks off computer-generated telemarketing calls. So, with a Telezapper, you can pick up an "out of area" call with confidence because it will force a hang-up on a telemarketer.

Just the same, in the bad old days of twelve years ago before caller i.d. and electronic voice mail, I had an answering machine. Every airline that notified me by phone of an interview left a message on my machine.

By the way, there were precious few of those messages left for me, Mr. Disco, so I know how you feel. I know exactly how you feel about people with like quals being called in before you. In my case, people with lesser quals than me were being called in before I was and/or I wasn't called in at all!!

In any event, hang in and best of luck.

WTF?....

Dont you think they would leave a message???

Are you never going to leave the house for months and hold the phone in your hand???!!

What if they never call?? you would never get out, never see the sun, and look really pasty at the next interview you do get....

they will leave messages folks.....just be sure your machine (or the vmail works!!)
