Call Signs

Where would I find regulations or any guidelines in choosing an aircraft call sign? As an example, we are starting up a new public-use contract. I have several call signs in mind, but some people have said that one in particular cannot be used. Wondering where I can find it in writing?

Thanks for the response, but those sites were about N-numbers. This is not about N-numbers.

That's the site I use to lookup call signs. It has a list of all ICAO call signs as well. Not sure if it's constantly kept up to date or not but it might help.

The call sign I want to use for this operation, another employee says can't be used because it doesn't meet the FAA criteria for call signs. I cannot get a hold of that employee right now and am trying to find where he would have obtained that criteria. I do appreciate all the responses.
