I was flying out of ORD the other day and heard a new callsign.

Who is "Mercury"?

Mayday

I think it's the latest bad attempt to come up with a different callsign for Shuttle America. Apparantly the old Shuttlecraft callsign was too close to Mesa's Air Shuttle callsign....
Yet the FAA doesn't seem to have a problem with Gojets using Gateway which is a lot more like USA 3000's callsign Getaway....

1st there was Shuttlecraft, inherited from the old Dash/Saab days.
2nd there was Crossroads (for about 11 hours) which was thrown out by the FAA, after the FAA approved it.
3rd there is now Mercury...and we really don't know why.
