I just got a call from CAL Friday evening for an interview invite next week. I have talked to my friends at CAL and they say sim prep is a must, but there is some confusion as to which sim they are now using. Some say MD80, some say B737. Also, some are saying Atleon/HigherPower isn't around now and that I should use Crew Pilot Training. I am totally confused. I am really hoping for some advise or insight on how to manage this part of the interview.

If there is anyone who has recently gone through the sim evaluation at CAL, could you please post a comment on what you know about this part of the process.

I have done many searches, but I am getting some conflicting info.

Thanks.

I used Crew Pilot Training (www.crewpilottraining.com) and recommend them highly. They used the sim in the CAL training building that is used for the interview sim check, and they knew the profile very well. There is no way I would have passed the sim check without the prep.

Still an MD-80. Houston facility/program is good from what I here. For those who want to prep earlier or on east coast we have a program in MIA with an MD 80 as well.

Crew Pilot Training. Same sim as for the interview. All the instructors for it are ex CAL guys. I belive the only reason they use the 737 is if the MD-80 is broken. I HIGHLY recommend you do the prep. Good luck!

I also used Crew Pilot Training (www.crewpilottraining.com). They were top notch. Yes, it is expensive ($550 +/-), but you get a great prep in the MD-80. The interview ride was identical to the prep. If things are going well during the official ride they will "make it interesting" w/ things like engine failures on final, etc. You should be able to handle abnormals in transport category aircraft by this point, at least to some degree.

CAL is willing to teach you how to fly the equipment "CAL's way", they just don't want to have to teach you HOW TO FLY. Get it?
