Is there any commuting protection or policy. Also any SoCal CAL pilots out there that can give some insight on commuting to work for CAL. Which base is easier to commute to from LAX and does any of the bases have LAX overnights and are they easy to get. Have an opportunity to get an interview with CAL, but im weighing out the QOL issues. Thanks.

You have to have two flights on CAL or Express with seats available, per the contract.

I don't know about your questions on LAX.

CLAMBAKE

When I was hired April 87 no one wanted to go to LAX so as the junior guy in the class I was assigned LAX. We even had a Orange County satellite base on the 737. Funny how times change now guys would pay big bucks to have that LAX base back.

Many commuters from LAX. On the B737 some LAX and SNA layovers from both IAH and EWR base. IAH is easier commute but much more senior. Doable commute but a long one. B756 have a couple of layovers from both IAH and EWR. Most B756 flying out of EWR going to Europe. Commuter policy is a bad one. IF you followed the policy you would have to leave LAX almost 18 hours prior to scheduled departure (or day before) to qualify. Many commute in on the red eye and then fly that morning on the 737 or fly to Europe that afternoon on the B756. Probably risky on probabtion to leave little or no back ups.
