Anyone hear any updates about CAL hiring this summer?
-W-

There were 3 suits in the Flight Training department Tuesday giving a presentation about an online pilot application. They had a captive audience from what I've heard. Summer 2005.

Last furlough class starts April 1. After that there are numerous folks who were in class just prior and on 9/11 that have a chance to come back. Next then is the 113 or Schindlers list group from XJT. At the rate they have been recalling and with the new route to Bejing, I would imagine the 9/11 and 113 folks would all be on property by the end of June. The last group is the PIG or preferential interview group, from XJT also. The union and CAL management have not decided yet on how to bring them over to CAL and how to intgrate them with off-the-street-hires once CAL does announce hiring. There are about 270 PIG guys waiting for class dates. I agree that summer 05 to spring or 06 is a likely time frame. Once it starts it will not stop either. These are the latest numbers from the union concerning retirements for CAL, updated 2/05.

Year, total for the year, and running total. I stopped at 2014 because that number represents a loss of more than 1/2 of the current senority list in less than 10 years.

05 - 145 (145)
06 - 242 (387)
07 - 309 (696)
08 - 237 (933)
09 - 213 (1146)
10 - 209 (1355)
11 - 217 (1572)
12 - 217 (1789)
13 - 191 (1980)
14 - 200 (2180)

Now that is the type of reply I was looking for. I didn't realize that 1/2 of the seniority would be retired in less than 10 yrs. Good info. I wonder if that is standard with other airlines?? Thanks. Are you a current fulrough? What have you been doing for 3 years??

ex737dvr: Great info, and I along with everyone else appreciates the post. It is not easy trying to make such a huge decision to go elsewhere in this day and age! Thanks again!

There are about 200-250 Calex captains who have already been "hired" under preferential a interview program. If CAL chooses to hire OTS and attemps to blend them into this group, that is their perogative. But it will be your flightbag that recieves the remnants of post-digested bean burritos for the rest of your career if you end up senior to any of them.

yea, nobody apply at CAL, you might PO some xjt guy..

whatever, your beef woudnt be with any ots hire.

Why would you be mad at a new hire?? Not like they would have a choice in the matter.

I doubt it would go this far. However CAL Flight Ops is playing childish games with the 250 Express guys. After all they were hired with official letters back in 2001-2002. Alot of these guys have hung around XJT when they could of gone elsewhere because of the letter that says they have been hired by CAL. Bottom line is blending these guys in with street hires is complete bullsh!t.

Save that sort of stuff for the SCABS. The OTS dude is not coming in and trying to break up the unity of the XJET guys. He just applied for a job.

Now if you want to schitt in managements breifcase, go right ahead.

Where would a OTS pre 9/11 hired individual with a 9/23/2001 class date fit in with all those express guys. Does he still hold his spot or flow all the way after the 200-250 Calex pilot?

Yeah, save it for the scabs or the Freedom pilots, or both.

Look, many of us didn't have 11,000 dollars to pay flight safety and flow through CAL back when they required it. So we took other jobs and are now trying to improve our careers.

I respect the guys that decided to pay the 11,000 dollars. I disagree with the practice and would never do it, but I understand their motives. They are probably all at CAL by now and it has worked well for them.

If CAL decides to blend the new hires with OTS guys I will be very happy, but I unerstand your dissappointment. It's not my fault! I will however keep my flight bag locked.

(it doen't take long for these threads to change gears huh?)

What were CAL's mins before the Great Airline Apocalypse anyway?

PS

Save Whitey!

If I remember correctly, when I put my app in in the winter of '98 it was 2000TT and 1000 PIC turbine.

Looks like I'll be senior after the merger. Keep hiring CAL!

Didn't you hear..........CAL is buying UAL. We tried it your way over SuperBowl weekend in '98 and lets just say that dog didn't hunt.

CAL is honoring the 19 OTS pilots who had class dates pre-9/11. They will go after the "113" group. How many of them actually accept the offer is unknown/unclear at this time.

I heard there may be a possiblility of a new flow through with XJT in the new CAL T/A. Don't know if that is good or bad? Anyone else heard that?
