Just passed through the school house and the bean counters are saying 500 more from August through March. Just thought I'd pass that along for those interested.

That's great news. CAL is basically projected to grow 1 airplane a month for the next 2-3 years. 30 new 737s next year, coupled with the retirement of 15; 30 new 737s in '09, coupled with the retirement of another 15; and then the 25 787s start to come in. I have heard recently that they will keep the 767s. That comes out to net growth of about 1 airplane a month for the next 2-3 years. Hiring should continue strong for a while.

Of course all this could change in an instant (i.e. mergers, terrorism, industry downturn etc.). Hopefully the positive news will continue instead.

Was in the office EWR the other day and heard the 737 cps saying that they probably were not going to retire any 737s next year because they need the planes.

Any help or info on whats the secret to getting called for Cont?

Thanks.

(Cant seem to figure out the secret handshake.)

Any news regarding a west coast base?

Yes. They will not be able to do IF they agree to our contract demands.

At least that is what they will tell the percentage of on-the-fence-leaning NO voters for the next TA who really want a West Coast base and are scared it won't happen.

Last I heard they were going to look at it in the spring, once PBS was up and running for a couple of months. Well, spring came and went and I have not heard anything? I think I am starting to understand why the senior guys laugh at me when I seem hopeful for a west coast base.

Having numerous internal LOR's.... that's about it.

Otherwise, you're pretty much S.O.L.

The good ol' boys club is very much alive at Continental.

Try JetBlue...

You could have a million LOR's, but you have to have some one walk into chief pilots office and personally reconmend you. Without that you are most likely dead in the water. Some do get hired without a chat with the CP, however it is rare.

Good Luck.
