How many hours per month/per year do you average? Is there a cap on monthly hours?

What does this equate to in yearly pay with all the extras (rigs), generally speaking. I'm primarily interested in years 1-5 in order to do a pay comparison to a Regional captain.

Thanks.

you'll make more, fly better planes, see better places

you can be typed in every plane CAL has within 5 years

regional jets are losing favor and you'll likely see shrinkage in the RJ market

In my seniority (almost 20 years) line holders are getting paid between 1100 and 1150 pay hours for year if they work hard.

My guess as a new hire once off reserve is about 1050 pay hours per year maybe as high as 1100. Depending on when you get hired I would guess the fastest way to a line would be as a EWR B737 FO and if you hit it right you could hold a line in three months. Longer on the B756 and the B737 in IAH. As a reserve most likely 76 hour per month. Hope this info helps.

PS I was BEX for a short time I was Pilgrim and in 86 got eaten by BEX. When did you start at BEX ( I know it's Eagle now)? I used to fly the F-28 any of those guys left?

I fly about 83 hours a month. I just hit second year on the 756 so you can look at the pay scale and do the math. They have a 10% 401k match right now and that goes to 12% in July. If you want to fly more you can. If you live local you can fly well over 90 hours a month but that's going to limit your days off.

The 757 is large narrow body pay and the 767 is wide body.

This Pascale doesn't include the next two pay increases in 7/07 and 7/08. Add about $4 an hour per plane for the F/O's and $5-$9 for the Captains depending on the plane.

Remember, we are still operating under the concessionary contract of 02' so what you see now is what the CAL pilots signed while operating in the worst time in aviation history. The Pascale's at the Legacy's are going to go up. They always do when things get better and they are usually at the top. We won't see FedEx or UPS's Pascale anytime soon but I'm sure we will see substantial pay raises.

Make the move. You will like it here.

Started at BEX in '98. Eagle bought us in '99. I'm about to upgrade to RJ capt. come this spring. I work hard, so I would pull in anywhere from 80-90K next year. I'm just not sure if I can afford to make the jump to 25K ish the first year. Would have to dip into savings for about 30-40 grand the first year. Figuring the first 2 or 3 years, I would be down well over 120K or so. House, wife, 2 kids. Just asking myself if it would be better to be a big fish in a small pond. Thanks.

Pay Bump in July 2007

Uniform Shop,

I see you were a fellow ATA pilot at one time in your career- I am also furloughed ATA.

This Pascale doesn't include the next two pay increases in 7/07 and 7/08. Add about $4 an hour per plane for the F/O's and $5-$9 for the Captains depending on the plane.

This bump in pay that happens in July of 2007- does that include first year pay as well? Going from $30 per hour to $34 per hour?

Uniformshop,

You're way off. It goes to 12.75% in July. Come on man, get it right.

I don't think 1st year pay goes up by $4/hr in July.

I was at ATA for 1 day shy of a year. Almost made second year pay. :angryfire

Unfortunately, first year pay goes to $30.57 in July and $31.18 next July. I wish it did go up more because first year pay was tough.

Sorry PK. I was leaving that .75% out so they would be pleasantly surprised next year. :D

How's IAH treating you?

They have a 10% 401k match right now and that goes to 12% in July. [/IMG]

There is no 401k match at CAL unless a certain level of profitability is reached.

These numbers are for the B-fund and are contributed monthly. The "%" comes from your gross monthly pay. Example: you gross $1,000 for NOV, CAL contributes 100 additional dollars into your B-Fund account.

Your 401k and B-fund are two separate accounts.

The B-fund increase to 12.75% in July 2007 is accurate, too (UAL is 15%:0 )

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

I stand corrected. It's technically called the B fund. It's directly deposited into a Schwab account just like your 401K and it's a percentage of your gross pay just like your 401K but it is called the B Fund or Continental Pilots Defined Contribution Plan.

I didn't realize there was a possibility of a 401K match though. That's good to know.

Thanks

You (we) received a 401k match last quarter due to CAL's profitability!!

It keeps getting better every day!! I just started looking at the Schwab account now that I'm in second year pay. I guess I will have to pay more attention to it.

Thanks again

Could one of you CAL guys or gals please post the profitable quarters from 2006 and how much money was made each quarter- I think you have made money in both the 2nd and the 3rd quarters of this year but I could be wrong?

There's a rumor floating around about 8% profit sharing in Feb. I could sure use it.
I've been averaging 89 hours every month on the 73 out of EWR. The pay jumps significantly after a year. Now that the 777 is going junior (it must be since I was awarded it), my second year hourly will go from $29.90 to @ $72 an hour.
I did seven and a half years at Eagle. Unless things changed drastically over there, I can honestly say that you'll do a lot better at CAL and enjoy your life more. JMHO.

a question about the profit sharing? How long do you have to be there to get the check? ( I know .....start throwing stuff at me for a stupid question :-)

IAH is good. Holding a pretty good line and new hires are coming directly here, so it's good. $31.18/hr. in July, hopefully we'll get that up into the $50's in 2008.

How's PBS working for you in EWR?

I fly reserve and live in base. It's good some months bad other but it's mostly good.

Being on the B756, I get the blended rate so I would have to fly an 81 hour line 757 to make what I do on reserve. I'm not going to say what I flew last month but it was very low. Got paid for the equiv of 81 757 hours though.

When does the B-fund kick in? 1st year or second?

So, I know this is a random question, how many pilots do you guys forsee being hired within the next year or so?

on reserve don't expect to go over guarantee unless they are hurting. You cannot pick up open time on reserve if it takes you past your guarantee.

Chief of CAL training talked to our class yesterday, he said they will finish hiring to fill their 500 (- a few) pilot vacancies from the last bid in May 07. They will go to 8 a month in the summer and anticipate another 500 new hires in late 07 - early 08.

Right now there are 20 newbies a week in Dec and then it will be 16 a week unitl May 07. Good luck.
