Profits for CAL will be even higher now.

HOUSTON, TX, United States (UPI) -- Houston`s Continental Airlines has picked Chautauqua Airlines to provide and operate 44 small jets as a regional carrier. Beginning next year, Chautauqua, a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings Inc., will operate 50-seat regional jets on Continental`s behalf, under the Continental Express brand. Continental, the world`s fifth-largest airline, will continue to schedule and market all of its Continental Express regional jet service.

Too bad that flying didn't go to mainline.

Mainline CAL Guys,
Do not cave on scope! Look at what has happened at DAL, AAA and UAL. Take it from a regional guy, every regional airline is eyeing up CAL for 70-seaters and looking for opportunities. If you approve 70 seaters, make it for ML only.

They don't have to approve 70 seaters for mainline, mainline can fly anything it wants. Scope just limits what everyone else flies for them!

Anything that is flown at CAL that has 59 seats or more and is a jet will be flown by mainline pilots or it will not be flown at CAL. I have not heard one pilot at CAL that would trade ANYTHING so that CAL can loosen scope. We were all fooled with the talk of " ohhh, it'll only be 25 RJ's and they will never replace DC-9's or 737-200's and they will never operate on CAL routes. " And the fact we just gave concessions in 2005 and I'm quite sure you will not see a CAL pilot give anything back to the company for any price!!!!!!!

so if mang comes to you and says, scope or pensions, what will yall pick?

just a question b/c I have been pondering that thought for a while

The problem with your argument is that our "A" fund has already been frozen. The only way to eliminate the fund now is through BK, which is not going to happen anytime soon.

I think Larry's team is showing the 50 seater out the door over time. I shed no tears over that fact. Yesterday Express had a flight from IAH-DFW just about every hour. Each one was as oversold as possible with over ten nonrevs on top. Makes me wonder what is so bad about a 737.

Like others of said the key is not to cave on the 70's. Tough to avoid, but as much as they can be minimized the better. I'm sure CAL management would love to park the 500's and replace them with 70/90's flown by scuzzy rj operators. Hope CAL ALPA stays firm...

Without scope, the rest of the contract is worthless.....
