...how do they work? Cost? etc?

Friend is going to use one she got from a FA to fly EWR-DAB in March.

Last priority and they are expensive, between 50 and 100 bucks pending on destinations.

Buy a ticket, it's 100 bucks more and you get a seat.

And that's just the administrative fee. Use of a buddy pass is considered income by the IRS and employees get taxed on each pass used as if it were income using a formula of some kind based on the full-fare, walk up to the counter, cost of a ticket, usually several hundred to over a thousand dollars. The end result is a pretty big cost in addition to the admin fee. Continental changed the way they used these in the last couple of years to help Fund Their Future. Not sure if "their" is the employees, the investors, or the management, but somebody's future is being funded.

and Spring Break will load up the planes. ditto what everyone else says. Buddy Passes are the biggest pain in the rear. i just tell everyone to sniff on the internet. it's the same price or cheaper and a confirmed seat.
